Re: Catching flack for keeping a clean car.

I clean my car 2 - 3 times a week. Thats my thing to do . I have 2 neighbors that work on there lawns 2 - 3 times a week thats there thing to do . I myself judge people on how well they keep there cars clean , although I know 1 guy that keeps his car very clean but is a jerk.

We pay alot of money for our cars so there is nothing wrong with us taking care of our investments. I park further out too whenever we go to a shopping center. I don't think my wife likes it when I park far and we have to walk a bit further but she understands. Plus we get excercise by walking.

Same here. I've had my Cadillac CTS for roughly 6 weeks now. And I've given it thorough wash, clay, polish, wax jobs 2 or 3 times already. And same applies for parking - I'd rather walk an extra 50 yards than have to spend the extra time and money fixing dents and scratches; and taking up two spaces is nothing unusual. Good thing is that I can park my car in garage when I'm home. And when I'm at work, well, I have seen more Ferrari's, Maserati's, and other $100,000+ cars in the parking lot than I can count, so I'm not too worried when I'm at work.

Re: Catching flack for keeping a clean car.

I wash my car about every two weeks, and I QD it 2-3 times a week between washes. My neighbors don't really heckle me, they mostly compliment the appearance of my car. A female co-worker tried to embarrass me a few weeks during an informal bull session at work by ridiculing me for quick detailing my car in the parking lot after I got off work. But since nearly all of the people in the discussion were male, it was like an unfunny joke. Everyone just looked at her like they were waiting for a punchline.

I also park my car further away to protect it from door dingers, shopping cart missiles, and hip-baggers (women with large purses or men with laptop bags riding their hips) but I also keep in mind that a car parked in an isolated area is a more tempting target for auto burglary or vandalsim, so it's a balancing act.

As horrible as this sounds, but I think I'd rather get my car stolen and have insurance company pay for a new car than have it scratched and dented and have to pay for fixing it myself

My truck is a 99....and it probably looks better than most new black trucks after they have been washed a couple times. And I totally agree about the parking lot thing. I always park as FAR away from others as possible. The result? Not a single door ding on my truck! I think people make those comments because the are.....JEALOUS!

Me too. Plus there are no other cars parked around yours to serve as cover for the thieves.

I agree but I'll also add one thing to this...

I'm the type (and I'm sure many car care perfectionists are like me) that likes to take care of all his things.

My home is immaculate, my lawn is well manicured, my cars are clean, my desk at the office is tidy. I'll bet most people who love car care are pretty tidy in other areas as well. It's kind of like "pride in ownership" and it is not just limited to cars.

But auto burglary is not auto theft. Auto burglary is someone forcing open your window, breaking the trim, breaking the lock on the door so they can steal things out of your car. I never leave anything of value visible in the car (PDA, GPS, Phone, camera - all go into the trunk or glove compartment). Auto burglary could also be someone stealing parts off your car like the catalytic converter, wheels, or stereo.

Take it, I don't need mine.

I am as paranoid as it gets. I refuse to park my car on my block out of my driveway out of fear of my car being keys, bumped, hit, burglarized or otherwise harmed. When I park in a parking lot sometimes I take up 2 spots to guarantee that no one slams their doors into mine while getting out. I always put my club on and double check that both my doors are definitely locked. I never leave anything of value in my car unless it is in the LOCKED glovebox. I have locking lug-nuts on my wheels and try my best to keep an eye on it if I am in a store or restaurant.

Every time I even touch my car I hear about how often I "wash" it. Little do they realize I wash, polish, clean, wax and dress all my appropriate car surfaces. They never even wash their cars; at best they bring them to the drive-through car wash.

"You are going to rub the paint off it" - Thats the idea, this is compound.
"When are you doing my car" - Well, if you are willing to pay what I charge...
"You missed a spot" - It looks like you missed your whole car.

Thats another great point. I do the same. I believe in "out of sight, out of mind" Therefore i NEVER leave anything in the car that i wouldn't want stolen. Also to throw in a tip about electronics, never store them where you wouldn't sleep. I thought I would mention that because my friend had an ipod an he left it in his glove box in the hot heat during his practice and guess what? He now had a fryPod lol. A couple hundred bucks down the drain, he barely got to use it. So thats my new rule of thumb for storing my electronics. Also i park far away from others. I go to the furthest car on the parking lot then park about 5-10 spots from them lol. Good excercise and no door dings yet..(knocks on wood)
