    Re: Kick the habit!

Thanks for the replies everyone. It's good to get a bit of support. It is very hard to stop.I did find in the past, that the first week is bad for the initial craving. Not easy after either, though.Met a freind that I hadn't seen in a while,at the supermarket. He had stopped for 8 years, and then started again. That's nuts!

Practically everywhere you go,you can't smoke anyway.

Apart fom the health,i'm looking at how much money is being wasted. In a 2 month period,I can buy a G220 and a good rotary(Milwaukee),plus all the pads, with the money that's being spent on smokes.

If I at least get one of these at the moment, that'll keep me occupied, allbeit grumpy.

I hope the others here that are trying to stop can stick with it to!

    Thanks,Ed.

Pick up an alternative habit. Cocaine sounds good eh?

I don't know man, thats a tough one. I quit out of necessity. They are so expensive over here that I simply could not afford to. That and the fact that I was very tired of hacking up blood occasionally. I genuinely wanted to for economical and personal reasons, if you don't truly want to then you cannot expect to. Cigarettes hit $9 when I quit, they are $10 now. They are projected to continue to go up still!!

Quit when my son was born about 4 years ago, then started up 3 1/2 months ago when I started my new job.

Did it cold turkey the first time, will do it again soon. Bottom line is you have to think about something really important to you and the fact that your time WILL be cut short with them if you don't cut the habit.

I still can't quit that! My wife works for Public Health and always bringing me brochures on quiting chewing....

Gum helps as well as sunflower seeds!

I work in a jail and 95% of the guys chew, so it's hard to quit for sure!

Good luck to you, my mom did the patch and nicotine gum which helped her quit after many many many years of smoking!

Many years ago, I tried the Nicorette gum. I was up to about 3 pieces at a time. Went back to smoking.

Been hypnotized on 3 different occasions. Temporary fix.

This time with the $10.00 increase per carton starting today, plus the $6.20 increase last April. I am more determined then ever to succeed.

When you're talking about chewin'. Are you talking about Skoal Bandits or something similair?

When I used to live in scotland there was a factory for the bandits.I think it's closed now.

Well, I don't anymore. I was 15 and 16 when i was "huckin' up blood", needless to say it was not fun. I have done a lot but detailing is my thing now.

That's ~$6, right? That's nothing, it hasn't been under $7 here in at least 4 years. It's at least $9 here these days.

I never tried those gums or anything, my friend used one of those plastic cigarettes that release nicotine and it didn't work. Cold turkey is the way to do it...

However you do it, just do not wait to long. The LAST thing you want to hear is the Doctor telling you that you have to quit or else.... Un fortunately it was that kind of reality check that finally got me off of chewing tabacco. I went to chewing tabacco when I wanted to quit smoking. I actually found a harder habit to quit! Best of luck on finding what works for you!!

                            Calais, smoke menthols?

I want to quit, but between the stresses of my job and the stresses of about ready to be a father......I don't see myself quitting anytime soon.
They rose our prices last year, I only pay about $5.33 for my Camel Wides, if they go up to 7 dollars then I may just have to quit.

Keep it up Eddie, I had to quit when I did my basic training, 4 months of no smoking. 5 minutes after graduation and I was back to puffin away.

I did when I started, Kools and Newports, as most people do. They caused the blood every now and then initially. I then began to hate them, Marlboro reds and Lucky Strikes became my smokes of choice. Lucky Strikes are still my favorite, but they are really bad for you; no filters!
