Re: What got you hooked on Meguiar's?

Let me start with an explanation.

In 1997 we were on our 4th year of going to ffice:smarttags" />Washington DC for the Easter Egg Roll. My wife had a sister that lived there and kept inviting us back. In 1997 the week long elementary school spring break didn’t happen right after Easter.

We went to the Easter Roll, and left at about 1:30 in the afternoon so the kids could back to school the next day. It was raining in DC and through southern Pennsylvania. As we kept going north, the rain turned to wet snow, which meant salted roads.

From somewhere near Harrisburg to Rochester, NY, we encountered road salt spray. The next morning, my Royal Blue Taurus ended up looking like a cloudy, almost white car. During the week I just hosed the car down and washed it about a week or two later, maybe longer. All I remember - I waited to long.

About a year or two later, the rust invaded the car, starting from the underside. I know it was due to my carelessness after we got home.

When we purchased another new Taurus in 1999, I was determined to keep this in good shape. That year, the magazine a used to checkout the cars had an article on “How to Detail Your Car like a Pro.” Shortly after, I found the Meguiar’s website while waiting for an oil change at my Ford dealership.

It was the great how to video’s and the forum that got me hooked. After using the products – I was addicted.

    The rest is history!

I need to post pictures of that ’99 Taurus. I just washed, clayed, cleaned with Ultimate Compound, used GC liquid wax on it. For a ten year old car, it looks great.

It started around 1966 (I was 16). I'd go to every Corvette show I could find and all the Vette guys used M07. I started using it on my cars as I got to where I could afford my own...been hooked ever since.

Well...i don't know if i have the right to post here, but here it goes anyway....

I've started getting the stuff of Meguiar's, because i've seen plenty of good results on various events.
With asking around, it became clear that they used Meguiar's.
So now i'm using the last bottle of AutoGlym, after that i'll start constantly using Meguiar's.

As i said.....it started becaue i've seen plenty of results of Meguiar's on various cars.
Last time was on the 1st of June at the dutch Concorso Italiano (TT-track in Assen). (Holland).

In 2002 I purchased a new firebird , bright red ragtop. After a few washes I noticed in the bright sunlight the nasty SWIRLS. Went to a few car shows and swap meets and started talking to painters and vendors about products to remove these defects. Was directed to this forum by the guys on the Meg truck at one event and the rest is history. Met Mike Phillips at the class at Jimmy Buffets and Jason Rose at the Midwest Get-to-together and attended a Detail Fest last year in Stuart Florida. I guess you could say I'm hooked and impressed with the fellow detailers I've met and shared this board with.

I've done so much reading on this website so I already know the aggressiveness of meguiar's products. I'm too lazy to get to know another brand's product line

Re: What got you hooked on Meguiar's?

I found Meguiar's in October of 2007 shortly after I bought my Saturn L200. I bought the car before the dealership had a chance to "detail" her and she was in pretty rough shape. Bought a tin of NXT 1.0 at Pep Boy's mainly because I liked the look of the packaging....very spiffy in my opinon!

The next day I cracked that tin open and went to town on my new ride. Used Armor All for the interior and Eagle 1 on the tires, which caused alot of slinging. I was very pleased with the results, she looked brand new to me. That night I went to help out my best friend at his pizza shop between Harrisburg and Hershey. The reaction he got when he saw my car was priceless, he thought it was brand spanking new straight out of the showroom floor. Now with that detail I didn't know any better and I used only the applicator pad and a hospital towel in the sun to detail her, being silver she hid what I did wrong very well.

A few days later I did my wifes black Ford Focus who very impolitely showed me how jacked up I was with my process.....'nuff said on that one. A good friend of mine and co-worker said that "nothing but Meguiar's goes on my Camaro. He has a teal '94 Camaro and he keeps it looking nice but he is not as "detail" orientated as I am now.

I started my full time job last September at the station that I used to volunteer for. First thing I did there after doing my morning rig check was to pull her out of the bay and I washed her down from top to bottom. You see I absolutely despise a dirty ambulance, the patients we take to the hospital pay alot of money for that ride and it needs to be looking like a professional vehicle AT ALL TIMES! If it's not raining or snowing, the ambulances are so clean grandma can drop her dentures on the floor and not have to worry about catching our previous patients cooties!
So anyways I had both my girls cleaned up real nice but I just wasn't satisfied with the way they looked. Tires still dirty, diamond plates and chrome still dull, scratches everywhere, the white paint didn't "pop" out. I remembered that tin of NXT that i bought the year before and it had the Meg's website on the bottom of it. I went online and went to the site and then found the MOL link. Well the rest is history as they say. Later on I went and bought the Hot Rims Mag and Alum Polish, extremely pleased on how it cleared up my metal and it took off from there. Now my two girls sitting in the station are probably the cleanest and shinniest ambulances in Central/SE Pennsylvania.

So here I am now writting this and plotting on my biggest and most meaningful project to date. My buddy who owns the Camaro is currently in Iraq serving as a Combat Medic. He gets back in September and my plan is to snatch his Camaro and put everything I learned from you guys here at MOL and make his ride show car worthy!

So with that I would like to thank Barry and his team of dedicated professionals who without a question of a doubt has made the Meguiar's name a symbol of quality and commitment, in making the best products available on this earth and taking the time to show joe schmoe's like myself how to make your vehicles look their absolute best!!!

Re: What got you hooked on Meguiar's?

When I first bought my car I knew NOTHING about car detailing; hell, I didn't even know how to wash a car. I used some Turtle Wax, Simmoniz and Armorall products which I was generally unhappy with the results (except Turtle Wax tire wet).

I looked at the other available products at my local AutoZone and saw which were a bit pricier. I truly believe "you get what you pay for" and I knew my paint needed some serious work. I bought some simple Meg's products like Gold Class wash (fell in love), ColorX and Gold Class paste wax. The results I got were impressive but I needed a few more products and to improve my technique.

Now my collection includes a Gold Class wash mitt, tire brush, UC, Cleaner Wax, QD, QID, etc. I'm on a buying frenzy and I intend to make a ~$400 order on ADS for lots more Meg's products, including a G110.

However, what really got me hooked what Rasky! I was on 8thcivic for a while and kept seeing all of the amazing work he did to cars and I wanted to learn how to do that myself! Eventually I saw him post a link to here and started lurking around for awhile. Eventually I joined and met Nick Chapman who was so nice to a noob like me and let me come down a few times and has helped to teach me so much. Now im so addicted to this and Meguiar's
AHH YES. Rasky also had a HUGE influence on me on 8thcivic.

Paste cleaner wax was the 1st thing i ever bought of megs, but i wasn't "hooked" until seeing a detail section on a ford ranger forum, from there i saw Presidential Details work which got me here, end of story.

I stumbled across this forum when looking for information on how to take better care of my cars. That got me interested and then I got really hooked when I won a G100 in one of the monthly drawings a couple of years ago and had to buy stuff to use with it.

I bought a new car in 2006 and prior to delivery, somehow got pointed to this forum. I knew the Meguiar's name from back when I was a kid (long, long time ago) so I started reading. I liked the information I was reading and how it was presented. It sounded logical, honest and with no hype. I started trying different Meguiar's products, found they worked as well as people said and that's how I got hooked .

After I bought my Cadillac, the car was somewhat dirty, and since I didn't want to ruin the paint like I did with the Hummer, I asked my car-crazy friend, who owns 3 Cadillac CTS's, what he used to clean/maintain his car. He said, and I quote, "I use Meguiar's for everything." I believed in this guy, all advices I've taken from him did none but benefit me, so I decided to take his words again.
