  • California Park & Beach Closure

    Hi all!
Well it seems California has figured that if they close State Parks and Beaches that they will somehow save more money. I'm not sure how they come up with all these ideas. A co-worker of mine made me aware of this since they frequent many of the State Parks in their Scouts. Just wanted to pass it along.

Got it that time. I was going to make a smart comment about it, but we're not supposed to discuss politics, so I'll just .

Remember, no politics... but if you want to discuss memories about your favorite parks, or generally discuss how bummed it makes you, that's fine. Just please don't turn this into a heated political debate...

            Thanks! Carry on...

Re: California Park & Beach Closure

I just found this article this morning. The reason I posted this thread is because I know some people here like camping out and spending time with their family & friends at some of these parks and beaches. It would just be a shame to have that taken away. I guess this is more of an awareness. I agree with Mark about not turning this into anything heated.

Update on California State Park Closures: Pismo Beach OHV Area Will Not Close
              June 5, 2009
              By Benson Kong
A couple days ago, we reported on the proposed closing of more than 200 California state parks due to California's current budget crisis. We highlighted the potential closure of the Pismo Beach OHV area, also known as the Oceano Dunes state vehicular recreation area and the only California state park where driving along the beach is permitted, but we have since received word from Yamaha that the Pismo Beach OHV area is not in danger of closing. This is great news for users of the Pismo Beach OHV area, and we will continue to update the situation on the California state parks as the information becomes available.

Re: California Park & Beach Closure

Not to turn this into any type of political thread but please help me understand this.

The fine folks in CA have over-spent and also decided not to raise taxes to pay for it. It appears that CA wants people from other states, via a Fed bailout, to pay for those under-funded expenditures.

If I was fiscally irresponsible and got deep in debt are you going to send me money? I didn't think so. What I would need to do is evaluate where I could make cuts to my expenses, find a way to increase my income or both.

Recently, the people of CA chose to strike down any tax increases which only leaves cutting expenses or imposing fees as alternatives. I believe your Prop 58 law mandates that CA balance their budget, right?

Again, I'm not trying to start any arguments about the politics of the situation but I have a hard time understanding why anyone would be upset about parks being closed when you had the option of raising your taxes to keep them open. This was the peoples choice. So what am I missing?

It's perfectly fine and great the way you posted it. I appreciate you looking out for your fellow members for sure

I just know the topic is politically based and therefor could go south, and I prefer stopping things that cause arguments in the Meguiar's family before they get started

Re: California Park & Beach Closure

Being a somewhat avid camper and off-roader I constantly see this type of stuff on Jeep forums. It's really sad because a lot of the closures come from people that misuse the areas which turns into a huge maintenance bill.

A lot of the places I grew up camping with my family are closed now we constantly have to find new areas to camp.

Obviously I wish they wouldn't close them but I see why some have to be closed and thats because they are misused.

Please don't destroy the places we all love.

                      Jim,

I kindly asked not to turn this into a political discussion, but now it has. I am going to be closing this thread until Mike Phillips can sort this out.
