  • Neighbors!!!

Here's what I have to look at out my living room window. What is wrong with people?

This one is just ridiculous. The neighbor next to me which is across the street from this, and the one next to this are trying to sell their homes. They need to sell their homes! People drive and look at the houses for sale, look at this and keep on driving. If I were trying to sell my house I'd be all over this guy with an attorney since the city refuses to enforce their codes for this one renter. (we're all homeowners) The red car has no tags and has not run in 9 months and the junker in the street hasn't run and has had that raincoat on in most of the time too. They tried to start it and just left it up for two weeks afterwards. They open the garage door and sit in the driveway on nights they feel like getting drunk (which is two or three times a week), are extremely loud until all hours and when they need to go to the bathroom they walk around the corner and do it in between their house and their neighbor's. The cops said they have too see them do it before they can do anything. I guess my wife's, the neighbor's wife and me seeing it don't count for nothing! The city said as long as the cars have air in the tires and a tag they can park on the street wherever they want. Perhaps I should go to the junkyard and get about 10 junk cars, get tags from the DMV and park them in front of their house? Wouldn't really make things any better, but maybe they'd get the message? Nah, probably not. for the past month I've seen this guy hauling kids in the back of his pickup truck (gone at the moment). The cops also said that it's illegal and they have to see it. Or, one of the kids falls out and gets killed first.

These people are from the middle east and this is what they did to a very nice red brick house. They trashed the pool as well. Glad I don't live next to them and the mesquito infested brown cesspool.

Here's mine. Granted, the yellow is not really what I'd paint it, but it's held up well since I purchased in 2001 and can't see spending money to repaint after losing $75,000 in equity in this market. I did remodel the inside two years ago when I was thinking of selling. If I'd only known what was coming I would have gone down in price a little and still made $100k profit!

I feel a little better. Sorry for venting on you! At least I kept it G rated.

Well, don't feel too bad. I have lousy neighbors too. They have little kids, and they're always outside screaming and yelling and honking the horn and yelling at their dog. I don't think they know how to talk to each other - they just yell whenever they want something. The only day we get peace is on Sundays, when they go to church (though I'm not sure why ). I wish they'd move.

I feel bad for you. I also have some "gems" around me.

Maybe if you video tape them relieving themselves the police could do something. lol If your luck is like mine you would be arrested for being a peeping tom. lol

        Re: Neighbors!!!

A few year ago, the city of San Diego enacted a nuisance ordinance which was a godsend for my street. I live in a part of the city popular with college aged kids because of it's proximity to the beaches, colleges, and nightlife in my area. More than half of the residences on my street are small apartment complexes rented out to college kids, and some houses have been turned into mini-dorms.

The partying before the ordinance was intolerable. College kids with no investment in the neighborhood partied loud and late into the night, strewed trash into the streets, lit bonfires in the courtyards of their complexes that shot 20 feet into the air and came dangerously close to igniting palm trees nearby. At the end of the school season my neighbors and I could always count on at least a half dozen vehicles being pushed out of the complex parking lots and abandoned on the street by graduating students leaving our neighborhood. We would have to wait at least 72 hours to report the abandoned vehicles. Traffic control would come out a week or two later, tag the car, and schedule them to be towed away a week after that.

But now things are better. The nuisance ordinance allows police to give a discretionary warning to the residents hosting the parties that if the police have to make a second visit in the same evening responding to complaints, the hosts could be fined $1000 or more. The city is also tracking down owners of the abandoned vehicles and hitting them with towing and impound fees, and we have seen a lot less junkers.

I have nothing against college kids, and I've met several decent kids on my street over the past few years, but their time in school is not a 4-5 year reprieve from responsibility and basic considerations for their neighbors.

A church I live near owns a few houses around mine, and the house next to mine is empty, and has been for about a year now. It was empty when i moved in to, its not a looker, but one day the church decides to turn it into a half way house. I don't mind and understant when people need to get back on their feet, but when they start cooking crack 20 feet from my family in the house next door we got a problem. So the house got condemed, and has been empty ever since, but about 3 months ago im heading home from work and see a huge yellow 1960s school bus parked in the driveway next door, two gents living in the thing, with a wood stove in the middle of the bus! Only took a few days before the fire deparment was there and they were all gone. I've lived in the ghetto, i've lived in 3k+ sf houses, i know what its like to be poor, but my godness i've ALWAY had enough respect to make my house look reasonable.

Ah man I feel your pain. I have a couple of neighbors myself and one of them have a beat up civic that is always parked in the street. Their renters and the only time they really move it (push it I should say) is when the street sweeper is going to pass. I just don't understand why keep junkers if they're not going to be fixed right away. They have another perfectly fine running car. We're shopping for a house and I know if I saw cars parked out in the street the way 10degreesbtdc pictured I'd be discouraged to buy there.

And neighbors with non-stop barking dogs??? Oh don't get me started .

My city along with one other one have the highest taxes in the nation. I would figure that the city would be better taken care of.

Just for the record, all landlords are not trash as depicted in the statements above.
Some of us have very nice homes and still make a decent profit on the investments.

I'm actually shocked this topic is still active on MOL.

Sorry to hear that!! It looks like a nice neighbourhood. This is something of a real problem nowadays. At least, one good thing.Your house is detatched and you only see them from time to time, and when you do,although not pleasant, you can shut your curtains.

I don't know if you're being sarcastic or serious? I don't think anyone said all landlords are lousy and don't care about their properties. I know for a fact that this landlord does not care. There have been four families in that house since it sold 5 years ago and every one has caused problems. The landlord has done nothing in between families or during leases. I've seen the place and it should be condemned. If I have anything to say about it, it will be. This is disgraceful. I've been over there trying to talk to these people and I had to back away from the front door because the odor coming from inside the house is so bad. I've heard the plumbing is bad, thus the reason for them using the bushes. The lady that used to live next door, that has been suffering from cancer since before I bought my house 8 years ago, had to move 8 months ago and is trying to sell her house because of these people, said that they use the bushes in the back yard too. Once these kinds of things happen, the neighborhood will never be the same. Renters apparently have more rights than homeowners.

I've been a landlord too. I've also rented in the past from decent, kind folks. This example is not either of those. If it were, I wouldn't need to vent about it. Sorry if you were offended. I certainly didn't and don't think anyone else meant to offend anyone.

Here's an idea, someone (hint, hint) buy this house from this non-caring (see I'm being nice) landlord and clean it up! If I had the money I sure would try. And the next sound you would hear after that would be my boot!

Rant Threads are good in that they help a person to rant and rave and often times that's enough to get something off your shoulders and at some level find some closure although that's probably not going to happen in the actual neighborhood it will happen here.

The OP didn't bash landlords as a group so for now lets just keep this thread in check..

                            Thanks,

I should have never posted this thread in the first place on this forum. My apologies. Things kind of came to a head in the neighborhood today and I should have bit my tongue instead of letting it out here.

Feel free to delete it, as far as I'm concerned.
