Well I'm glad I'm not the only one who's done something knuckleheaded!

I mostly learn thru trial and error, fortunately after finding this site I've had nothing but success!

I have sprayed Ultimate Quik Detailer on my leather seats, thinking it was Gold Class Leather & Conditioner.

Well this happened to me for a second time just last week. First time was about a year ago. I was going around and wiping down the exterior glass with D Line glass cleaner, I reach down and grab the bottle and it sprays white solution on the windshield. I look down at the bottle and I grabbed Hyper Dressing instead of the window cleaner haha

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

            I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.

Used to use Turtle wax Rubbing/polishing compounds to get rid of scratches
Never noticed any marring though. It was the premium grade stuff in the bottle, not the one in the little cans, dont know if that made a difference.

Couple weeks ago, claying my moms car, accidentally reached for the natural shine protectant, instead of the clay lube.

I was wet sanding some touched up rock chips on my hood and burnt the clear coat.

Re: Tell us about your mistakes.

                  Wow! Where do I begin?

                  1. I have a habit of lifting up the windshield wiper arms when washing a car. However, when I'm getting ready to dry the door jambs and get to lifting up the hood- *smack* goes the hood into the wiper arms. This has happened to *all* my cars!

                  2. Most recently, I used ScratchX on my interior front windshield to remove some stubborn spots at the recommendation of Tuck91. The ScratchX worked, but I broke the cardinal rule of not laying down a towel on the dashboard to prevent any spillage or splatter. Impressed with my work, I left and returned to the car 6 hours later after sitting in the hot sun, a blotch of ScratchX was greeting me on the dash right above the instrument cluster. It did leave a slight discoloration, but is now hidden with Natural Shine. Whew!

                  3. Tried using M04 BY HAND. Need I say more? Thank God this was years ago on a car I no longer have.

Okay not a detailing issue per say....but I shut the garage door down on my wifes's Maxima and put a HUGE gouge/ scratch down the trunk. Every time I buff, wash, wax, or polish it.....I see my mistake.

Re: Tell us about your mistakes.

Back in my teenage years, I worked at a car wash. Some of you will remember the the type when you hooked a chain to the front end, left car in neutral engine off, and it was pulled through the wash line.

Well a customer pulls up to the wash line, puts car in neutral,(leaves engine running) and gets out. By the time he gets out of the way, and I am ready to get into his car. It takes off and starts going down the wash line. Here I am running down the wash line trying top catch his car. I finally catch the car,(no damage to anything) and put it in neutral turn off the engine and hook up the chain.

I go back to the front of the wash and I am relieved nothing happened. The customer comes back and says " jeez my car is that far down the line already. I better go on a diet." lol

I never had the nerve to tell him what happened.

Re: Tell us about your mistakes.

I used to use the scrub brush at the quarter wash on my black Neon.

I used to use Armor All to dress the interior. Learned really fast why you shouldn't put it on the steering wheel.

I used to wash my car with whatever dish soap we had. Also I would just lay the sponge on the ground while rinsing, then pick it up and scrub again. eeeeek!

I waxed my old Jeep in 30 minutes. Kind of tells you what my process used to be like. However, there were very minimal swirls in the paint. Not sure how I lucked out on that.

I painted the frame and diff on my old Silverado without taping anything. Spent the next day re claying the paint. lol.

My 1st detailing experience was to polish out some swirls.
Used Turtle Wax rubbing compound and scratched the heck out of the paint. So that was what is called "rocks in a bottle".

Learned to start on a test spot 1st.

I used Meguiars Quik Wax like a spray detailer for a while. turned out nice but still streaked a bit.

In 2007 I bought M07 Show Car Glaze thinking it was a wax. It wasnt hard to remove because at the time I "waxed" panel by panel.

I used to just apply my interior protectants by spraying and wiping and getting mad it would streak. then I read on hear to use a foam applicator pad.
