  • Things are worse than ever right now

    Hello everyone.

Some of you may have saw previous threads on the condition of my dog, Sonny. Today I found out the cancer has spread to other organs and into his bloodstream. Chemotherapy may prolong his life for a small period of time but he will still most likely lose even more weight and be in pain and suffering.

Nobody wants to see their pet suffer and accept the fact that it is their time.

but at the same time we want them to live to be able to comfort us and we dont want to see them go.

Sonny is only eight years old and in that eight years he has been a source of joy and happiness.

The doctor said he only has two months. But he could experience problems before then too. Sometime this month, it will be time for him to go.

Thank you too everyone that has kept Sonny in their thoughts and prayers. I thank you all who took the time to think of him.

Re: Things are worse than ever right now

I'm so sorry to hear that. Nobody who owns a pet wants to hear that. I remember when I lost my pet rabbit. Her name was Snoopy, and she was my first pet. She died of natural causes or old age when she was 7 and 1/2. I cried when she died. It is one of the hardest things to go through. But when Sonny passes over the Rainbow Bridge, you can know that he will be waiting for you. He'll be your guardian angel.

Re: Things are worse than ever right now

I've owned dogs all my life (I'm 66 now). Most of them have hung on for 12-14 years but my last two both had cancer and I had to have them put down. It was a very sad thing to do but I couldn't watch them suffer any longer either. It was quite a sad time for my wife and I, but I knew we gave our pets a great life. The best thing we did was to immediately find a puppy to give a good home to. It really helped us through a sad time. Sadly dogs don't live very long. Your dog was lucky to have you as his owner.

              My sympathy for your situation.

I'm sorry to hear that Tuck, it is hard to lose a loved one even if they are an animal. Just enjoy the time you have left with Sonny and remember all the great times you had together.

Been there, done that and it hurts.

If you consider getting another dog, please consider getting one from an animal shelter and give a dog another chance to find his/her forever home.

Re: Things are worse than ever right now

Im so sorry to hear this you may remember from your last update that I had mentioned that I had recently lost my dog maggie. She died at 13 the morning after her birthday. The doctors told us basically the same sort of thing that we could spend lots of money for her to live a little better but we didnt have the money so me and my mom left her at an emergency clinic overnight so she could be comfortable and they could give her medicine. Ended up that she passed away the next morning.

The hardest thing for me was that I just came home for the weekend and when I got to see her she had just been groomed but had a stroke and basically wasnt there and wouldnt respond, couldnt walk, eat drink, or anything. So I had to carry her everywhere. Im not going to lie I cried like a baby when she died and it was very hard to get over. We have no other pets so when I walk around outside and around the house there is just emptyness where she used to be.

I can tell you it will get better, but I do believe pets are one of the things that impact the most because they are always there for you. Nick, you have my deepest sympathy and Im sorry about the situation Hopefully my family will get another dog soon to keep our minds from staying fixated on Maggie.

Tuck, so sorry to hear this. The loss of a pet is devastating to say the least. You and your family gave Sonny a great home. Be there for him now and remember all the great times you had together. My wife and I extend our deepest sympathies to you and your family.
