Joe and everyone who is contributing,I just wanted to say how much I appreciate what you are doing. It meant so much to receive a care package when I was over in Iraq last year. I'm sure whoever receives these packages will appreciate them just as much.

Re: I need $$$$ to get goodies to Iraq!

Thanks everybody for your help. Here is a letter I received this morning -

                    Good Morning Joe,

Thank you for what your doing to support us all out here. The quick down and dirty on who “we” are within the MEB. Well, I’m SgtMaj Robert Breeden (Bob) and I’m the Battalion SgtMaj for 2d Battalion, 8th Marines aka “America’s Battalion”. I’m not familiar with your knowledge of the military/Marines so pardon the explanation if you already know. We’re stationed out of Camp Lejeune, NC and the thousand plus infantrymen we have here represent all little bit of all 50 states/provinces. We have a little bit of everywhere in us. We are one of the strait leg infantry units here conducting combat operations in the Helmand River Valley. Specifically, our Battalion is clearing and holding the Garmsir District of the Helmand Province. We have a collaboration of very motivated young and older Americans out here doing a great job. Currently in “America’s Battalion” we have not only Marines, but we have our sailors, soldiers and civilians (law enforcement liaisons and translators), British soldiers, Royal Navy signalman, a Dutch liaison and soon we’ll have a company of Estonians all working under our Commanding Officer (Lt Col Christian Cabaniss). We’re working hand in hand with the local Afghan Security Forces consisting of Afghan Army, police and border patrol in mentorship/development of the overall mission.

Without getting into Operational Security violations, we’re all over the place living amongst the local populace. This is the only way to effectively run counter insurgency operations which this battalion is famous for. In short, the Marines are out in austere living conditions and for the most part, not complaining. “This is what Marines do”. As to narrow the desires per the below. We do not have access to “a store” (or the PX for that manner). The only way our personnel receive toiletries are via care packages from family/friends/organizations such as yourself. We spread load out items of need to those who do not receive mail from family members etc. So razors, baby wipes, foot powder, socks and soap are always the hot commodities. Junk food is nice to have but with the extreme heat, can be interesting by the time we get boxes through the pipeline of travel. Magazines of what is going on in hometown America is always a hit as well. Drink packets for our bottled water is a real hit as well as the small hand sanitizers (gel). Coffee is an unbelievable luxury here (as they drink tea/chai) and is savored with complete excitement when made. Sometimes we’ve rebrewed grounds because in this environment… it tastes just as good the second time around (LOL).

Again, the members of “America’s Battalion” appreciate all that you and your friends do and I am pretty much available via this email address all the time. I’m in and out due to operations and visiting the men, but always respond without haste when I get the email.

                    R/S,

                    Bob

2d Marine Expeditionary Brigade - Afghanistan

I included the address. Please find it in your heart to put a box or two together and send it his way.

I am glad to see that there are actually people out there showing their appreciates to the American troops

If you go to places like youtube, you will find people expressing their hatred towards Christianity, the former president, and not least the trooops whom they call warmongers!

Summer shipment has long been sent out already.

Too early to start collecting for the Christmas shipment??? What do you say?
