I think you have to convert it to DVD, then use software like Roxio to make an image of your DVD and convert it to an mpeg or avi file. But this is purely a guess on my part.
I have a product called 'Dazzle'. It has a USB connector for your PC and Composit (Videp, L&R Audio) for your VCR's line output. It includes software to capture the video and save as an .AVI, .WMV, .MPG file. It cost me about 70 bucks at BestBuy.
I converted all of our old Camcorder tapes with it and it worked out great.
