Re: Bummer of a day - pet lovers

Thanks to everyone who took the time to not only read my admittedly long story, but to also share your thoughts. It really means a lot, and helps at a time like this.

I just got back from the vet and they said that he didn't get worse from yesterday, which is apparently a small victory considering we haven't gotten the meds yet. So far it is just giving him daily IV and trying to get him to drink as much as possible.

They said once we get the meds into him he will most likely feel better and start eating again. Now the waiting game begins...

I hope the best for you Mark and Yoda. i'm more of a cat person then a dog person (wife hates that but who cares! ). My best buddie Edge passed away last April from liver failure. He was a 8 year old Russian Blue kittie who's friendship I cherished more then most of my human friends. My wife found him hiding underneath a car when he was only a year old. I only wish I could've gotten to the vet in time for him but unfortunately he died the night before our appointment. He left his brother TC who equally misses him, I love TC to death but it just isn't the same without him around. Anyways I'm pulling for your Yoda and I hope he gets better!

Mark, sorry to hear about Yoda.

We had a cat named Kit Kat, she was wild when we found her and she lived into her 20's, so, when we put her down, it was a hard thing to take, all of us kids adored her and she was quite the mouser to boot! She would lay on our dogs in the sun and wish I had camera phone/digital cameras then. She was special!

I hope you get Yoda better and the meds work.

Take care and pray all goes well!

Hey Mark, I can share your feelings, having had and still have many cats, dogs, etc... Seems like you are very devoted to doing everything you can, and animals, usually seem to be able to tell! I hope he pulls through!!! My cat is going on 15 or 16 years as well, and is still....waddling along with AWD on (she almost always has all of her claws out when walking on the carpet), lol. Best of luck to you both!

              Mark

I had a similar situation. Scooter was my all time favorite cat... At about 16 he encountered the same problems. What we learned was this... Flushing (lots of hydration) helps, but it really comforts him. One of the main side effects is dehydration which in turn gives the cat nausea. The nausea make a rough situation for him more so. Get some bagged fluids and give him a good dose a day, behind the neck with the needle and that will help hydrate and comfort him. Really not that tough to do. It really helps him through the experience.

Sorry you have to experience this, hang in there... Try to make him comfortable.

Re: Bummer of a day - pet lovers

Well, as Mike Pennington already knows, today was finally the end. I had to take my buddy Yoda in today to have him put to sleep.

It was one of the hardest things I have ever done. I just buried the little guy in the yard, and I miss him already. He put a smile on my face so many times a day I owe him a great gratitude for the years of happiness he brought me.

                RIP Yoda.

So sorry to hear about that, Mark. I know it was a hard decision for you but ultimately one that was best for Yoda. The best pet owners are the ones that can make that decision and not hang on to a terminally ill pet.

Hi Mark. I'm really sorry to hear that.15 years is a fair age.I hope you have a good vet that can do good treatment for him.

Being animal lovers here,I'd just like to add a wee bit,

My cat died at 19,nearly 20.I sent him over here by plane at the age of 13.The last 3 years of his life he had diabetis and I had to give him injections twice a day throught that period, plus special food called 'Hill's' MD(I believe it's made in the states). It was all very costly, but that didn't matter. The vet I had was fantastic. She really loved animals and took good care of him.(unfortunately, not all vets are the same).

My cat was mad for tuna aswell.I think that's what caused the diabetis. It's very high in protien. The hardest part for us,was the decision to put him down, more or less a year ago now. That was really an awfull period. As much as I hated doing that,I had to decide what was best for him and not let him suffer.Anyway....,I buried him out in the garden,so he's still with me...

                          Eddie.

Sorry to hear that Mark! But at least he is no longer suffering. Having a pet for as long as you did, it becomes more like a family member than a pet.

Sorry to hear Mark, I know its hard but you cat is in kitty heaven now It was hard for me and my mom to make the decision a while back about my dog and its better but things are still weird without her around. I would show pics of her but im to lazy to scan and stuff. It gets easier, you just gotta give it time.
