  • Thought I'd share some fishing pics :)

So it was the MN fishing opener last weekend and I went up north fishing with some family...don't get to do it near as often as I'd like too.

It was rather cool when we arrived at the island on Friday evening, about 40-45 degrees I'd say. Only 3 of us actually camped out (my brother, his friend, and I). The others (father & uncle) took one of the boats into town and stayed with family because it was to cold they said...wimps!

    Camp

It was definitely cold sleeping in the tent at night. It dipped down into the upper 20's and was snowing when we woke up.

    Setting the hook

Over the weekend we caught 50+ Northern Pike (could only keep a few), several Walleye and Crappie. two of the Northern Pike we caught actually had a fish tail still sticking out of their throat! Hard to believe they would grab a large 5" bait with a 13" fish still in their mouth!

Some of the keepers....this stringer was heavy!

    Lurking in the water

    Some Loons in the channel

A few more pics of the lake....we finally got some sun on Sunday and Monday.

Hope you all enjoyed the pics as much as I enjoyed the trip....time to go fry up some fish now!

      Very Kewl!

I can't wait to fish this year, my dad said the salmon is running good in the Rogue River this year.

Wow Rasky, that looks like a totally fun time! As a young kid, I used to go with my friends family who had a cabin on Little Sand Lake, very secluded and we always had a great time. The Northern Pike and Muskie's are BIG! Those are some nice fish you caught... Is Nothern Pike good to eat?

Man I'm jealous. I'd brave the cold to have a good time like that. Beautiful country up in Minnesota. I was born in St. Paul, and most of our extended family is still in MN. Been a few years since I've been up there (I think we went to see family or for a funeral or something, I can't remember), but I always leave wanting to go back. Me, my mom, and my dad got the chance once to go camping in Glendalough State Park with my uncle, who loves being outdoors. Very rustic and simple, but great fun! I want to go back there someday. Anyways, glad to hear you had such a great time!

                        Cool pics. Love the scenery.

I also went fishing few weeks ago. Went back to my parent's hometown for the annual town fishing (allowed only once a year to fish off the local rivers) and apart from getting a good tan (LOL), it was very fun indeed.

I've had some over the last few years and it's actually pretty good. I still like Walleye and Crappie much better. It's funny because growing up we were not allowed to even bring a Northern into the boat....now we are keeping and eating them. I think it's just that they are stinky, slimy and are a PITA to clean.

It's definitely a different way of living up there.

                              Rasky,

Amazing! I have three hobbies in life... (in no particular order).

                              1. Fishing

                              2. Golf

                              3. Car detailing

Coming from a Northern climate, we fish for a lot of the same stuff, although I'd say largemouth/smallmouth bass are my favorite, I always find myself tagging a nice Northern (who bite on anything) and in the rare case, a monster Muskie.

Not much of a Walleye guy, as bouncing a jig at a depth of 25 ft isn't my style of fishing.

Now you've got me wanting to leave work and get out on the lake!!!
