  • Mother's Day detail

So did anyone give their favorite mom's car a detail as a Mother's Day present? I did my wifes car as a soon to be mother's/birthday present and my mother-in-law will be getting her car (it's gonna be a doozie too!) detailed in two weeks.

It's always good idea to be on moms good side!

Of course, gotta give love to Mom on Mother's day. Showed up at about 8am and didn't leave til everything on her ride was sparkling at about 6pm. That's about as close to the heart as it gets when it comes to getting something from me. All at half price!

Lol, just kidding. It was free of course.

My mom hadn't touched her Yukon in over 6 months. Mind you, 6 months ago I performed a 3o+ hour detail on her Yukon.

This is the before polishing, after washing from 6 months ago:

This was after polishing: M105 then M82 if I recall correctly.

            Got glass?

This thing was COATED in gunk, dirt, and grime. I soaked it twice with a foam gun and a mix of Gold Class and NXT soap before even touching it. I had to empty my wash bucket and rinse bucket twice, each.

End result... not too bad, eh? I didn't even wax it or anything... it's just the single coat of M16 from 6 months ago.

            Here are the before shots:

            Yuck?

            Nasty!

Rear window is asking for my help

Notice how faded the running board is...it's not even black anymore.

Here are some paint shots in the sun after the wash. No QD or wax was applied.

            Full vehicle shot

            Side shot

            Side again

            Wheel/Tire

All in all, I think the car looks fantastic. I thought it would have more swirls but I guess a careful and thorough wash technique proved to out fox even the nastiest of buildup on the paint!

I cant believe the trim faded that much in 6 months, what did you use to bring it back to life?

              nice work by the way.

Pretty bad for 6 months eh? I guess total and complete neglect will do that. It had a LOT of time outside in the sun when we were moving stuff around in the garage.

A singe coat of All Season Dressing was what the doctor ordered.

I put it on fairly thick- let it dwell for an hour, and then went over it with some heavy-duty paper towels to get the excess. I warned my mom that it might still be slick, but she said she hasn't noticed it being slippery (which is good).

It sure made the car look a lot cleaner and newer.

Yeah, it does look a lot better. Its also possible that its the same type of trim that went bad and got recalled on those Chevy Avalanches a while back.

On my truck I apply Gold Class Trim Detailer every month and then after each wash go over it wih something like Natural Shine or Supreme Shine to maintain it, I love the look of freshly dressed trim.

I wish my Mom was around to give her car a detail! When she was alive, I used to go and take care of washing her car, windows in her house and cutting her lawn etc..... Please respect and help your Mom because she is the ONLY one you get! I lost mine 17 years ago and would give anything to have another hug from that lady. Happy Mothers Day to my wife and daughter!

I don't have any decent paint cleaners, but that didn't stop my from doing my mom's car.

Turned out pretty nicely her's is pretty new vehicle so there's no swirl marks. I cleaned it up, clayed it, and waxed it. Did the trim and interrior. I think it was about 8 hours.

I did it at night Saturday and finished waxing in the morning then finished the interior Sunday night.

I'm in the category for doing my mom's car

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

                          I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
                          Remove swirls my friends.

Great replies everyone. Nice job on the Yukon Mark! It's amazing what 6 months will do to a car. Dave, sorry to hear about your mom, even if it was 17 years ago. Alway cherish the good memories!

My mom doesn't have a car so I'm off the hook for that......Red Lobster was a fine and tasty substitue!

Now my mother-in-law is a different story. She has an older model Subaru Forrester burgandy in color. I don't think it's ever been detailed and the exterior is in pretty rough shape (swirls, deep scratches, scour marks, ect). I don't know what my plan of attack will be except is going to be by hand.
This will most likely be along the lines of my detail from he.. as it's gonna hurt (in a good way) worse then the wifey's Focus! This may be a good candidate for the Extreme Makeover forum!!!!

                              Re: Mother's Day detail

I detailed my mother in-laws Lincoln. I told her that I would pick up her car at 7am and bring it back the next day. She wanted it back by 5:30pm so that she could take her mother out for her birthday. Holy Cow!!! I busted my tushy to get it done. I was just finishing up when my mother in-law and father in-law showed up. All they could do was stare, then they could not decide if they wanted to take it home on thier gravel road and risk it getting dirty or leave it at their shop. My wife and I followed them over to the next town to eat dinner. I have never known my father in-law to drive the speed limit or slower, because he did not want to risk getting bugs on the car. They decided to go ahead and take the car home because of the incoming storms. THe car did not leave the garage for the rest of the weekend. IT was well worth the effort! THANKS MEGS!!!
