  • Dont like working on white!

Mods, wasnt sure if this was off topic or not but if you need to move it feel free.

Anyways, I do not like working on white cars! All ive been working on is my black cars and a few others but they were all dark. I dont know how yall can see a thing in the paint (I guess the weather didnt help since the sun never came out) but I couldnt see a thing.

Then while looking to see the swirls which I know are terrible, I could barely find anything. Maybe I need to train my eyes more or something

Im just going to have to wait til school is out and im back home to make another attack at it. Hopefully the lack of light isnt hiding something terrible.

Sorry about the rant but lets start a discussion, do you guys like white cars? and what is your secret to making white pop?

i always have found them too be boring, the only thing that seems to happen when fully detailed is it becomes whiter and whiter. Plus, products like M07 or DC2 arent very effective on them, since it is a lighter color.

As boring as it is to work on them. I find them to be more of a challenge. As you stated John, it is hard to find the swirls. Get yourself a Brinkmann and you will see them all. Then when you get rid of them, I feel a lot better then when I do a darker paint were the swirls are readily seen.

Just my 0.02 cents. But I would still rather work on darker paint. lol.

Yes they are kind of boring.
But if you look at my details on white, they do give good reflections.
Just make sure that 3fitty does not see this, he will go bonkers!!
I find silver worse to work on.
My mom's van is a pain, to see swirls, way harder than white, IMO.

Yeah I really need a Brinkman but havent found one yet. I love working on my car because the begining and end can be so dramatic but I get what you say about a challenge, that is definitely true! It kicked my butt today

Re: Dont like working on white!

My daily driver is a white car.

So far I have not been able to get the paint to my liking. I work on it to kill time and entertain myself and don't have extended hours to work on it. Here is a couple of things I've found out while working on white:

              1. Hard to find/see swirls and scratches with the naked eye. If Im looking for them in full sun I can't find them. I have to be in the shade and with artificial lighting to see them come to life. And they only show under some angles.

              2. Forget about trying to capture pictures in direct sun or with flash in the garage. You need to be in the shade with lighting and find the right angle to get those defects to come to life and to show on pics

              RIDS on white:

              3. I hate bugs, grime, and the carbon thingy coming from the tires staining my paint. (sorry abouth the focus)

Carbon spotting from tires on white:

              Grime on white:

              4. When doing waxing or polish or applying any product, I have a hard time seeing coverage since most products are white too. I have to bend to see the product on the paint. Luckily I mostly work on the garage if not my neighbors would think I am crazy

John, bring the car over to the house, and we'll tackle it together. Not sure about anything special, but we can and will make that white pop

Seriously guys, there is no secret to making white pop. All you do is remove the defects, and apply a good quality wax/sealant. I don't treat white vehicles any differently than black, blue, red silver, etc... Remove the defects and you're rewarded with outstanding results.

Bingo... this is especially true when the paint in question is a basecoat/clear paint system...

It is all about the prep work. I do not mind working on white at all. I just was agreeing it is more time consuming making sure the defects are corrected. It just seems that they are harder to find without the proper lighting. That is all I meant.
