lol...I use my PC for video editing, photo shop, graphics stuff...and MOL...I have a Gateway 21" LCD that is 3 years old and starting to **** out...I'll never buy another Gateway product...ever...my son has had the same Apple laptop since he was in 8th grade...he is starting college in September and just bought a new one and gave the old one to his sisters...thing still works as good as the first day he opened it...I've been a PC guy for 20 years...my next computer will be a MAC...no question...but for now, my PC is working ok it's the monitor that is going to die soon and I need to get another one...you'd think they would last longer than 3 years....

      phew...sorry, couldn't help myself....

Re: Opinions needed on best Computer Monitor to buy

        Hey there -
You happen to be in luck

I actually own a computer store/ISP in Cambridge, Ohio. Here is my best advice...

We've order hundreds if not thousands of LCD's at the shop over the years. So far my best recommendation for quality versus money would be an Acer 22" flat screen. Around here that seems to be about the best price break for value that your going to find. Yes they do make bigger screens with more features but depending on your budget, its gonna be hard to beat that monitor.

Check out Acer X223Wbd on new egg, they are running about $160 bucks.
This acer supports standard VGA and DVI if you run a little higher end video card that runs a true digital display. I actually use this same monitor as my desk at the office.. People ask me why I don't use a bigger one, and I answer I use a projector at the house and a 84" screen. Yeah I know I'm a nerd!!

I've had everything from AOC, Samsung, Chemini, Benq, Hannspree and the Acer line seem to be the most reliable for us. Don't get me wrong, I'm not here to mudsling on other brands of monitors, I am just giving what I have seen over the years of use and abuse on monitors. Shoot me a PM if you want , and I'll throw you my cell and we can discuss any other concerns you have before buying a new monitor

Hope that helps... Its hard to go into great detail about every aspect of monitors on a forum but I will be glad to help you as much as I can!!!!

I knew my MOL friends would come through!...thanks b00g2003...I was actually looking at the Acer X223WBD Widescreen LCD Monitor on Buy.com...it is $149...I've been checking out the Samsung too..it's next on the list of bestselling monitors right behind the ACER...any experience with Samsung ??...and wouldn't I expect to get more than three years from a monitor ?...

I have a Samsung 20" that I love. Only been using it for a little over 7 months, but no problems at all.

Re: Opinions needed on best Computer Monitor to buy

To be honest, not a much... After going through several brands, we came across Acer line. With such good luck we've had with them, I quit looking

That exact Acer 22", we have in machine shops, body shops, and many other EXTREME conditions and they perform flawless!! Samsung is a big player also so I doubt you could go wrong with either one but I'm sticking to my Acer recommendation

and at $149 makes it an even better monitor!!!!

I love my Acer 22" widescreen. It's a AL2216Wbd and I've had it for a year with absolutely no problems. I don't know how I ever got along without it.

Before you commit to buy, check out buy.com first. They usually have insane prices for most computer gear.

Re: Opinions needed on best Computer Monitor to buy

I run dual HP w2207 monitors. They are really awesome. No problems, no complaints. They have a sweet adjustable stand, too. They also have USB (2) slots on the side.

I got mine 6+ months ago for $600 shipped for the pair off of Amazon, through TigerDirect.com

I did a LOT of research and it basically was between the ones I got, and a Samsung competitor. One thing you want to figure out is if your primary concern is reading text, or gaming/videos/graphic editing. Some monitors will excel at producing crisp text that won't strain your eyes, and other excel at graphics and colors.

The Samsung T240. It's a great monitor, plus it has a $30 mail-in rebate on it right now!
