I would have thought for sure they were going to drop Buick. What kind of niche does buick have anyway? Chevy is the family brand. Saturn is the alternative family brand. Cadillac is the luxury brand. GMC is the truck brand. Hummer is the adventure brand. Havent seen a Saab in years anyway. Pontiac WAS the sporty brand. But what exactly is Buick? I would have dropped the Buick.

What brand are you going to buy next?

I could have read it wrong...anyone know anything different?

I was never a big fan of Pontiac....except for the Bonnies.
Saab is the other brand GM is considering cutting. See Business Week's article here:

Love that Firebird! The gold piping, the screaming chicken hood decal. But I could never pull off owning one in the late 70's. Somehow I just couldn't wear the requisite Members Only jacket and make it all work!

I actually really liked the Solstice concept, but like many GM vehicles, the execution just wasn't there at all.

Inconvenient top (get out of the car? huh?), no trunk with top down, terrible fit and finish, and 400 lbs overweight.

It was just a lazy design.

It's too heavy, so what do they do? Add more power! Bigger brakes, bigger rims for more bling!

They missed the entire point - a simple and light roadster is simply more satisfying.

I'm not surprised that Pontiac is going away, I'm actually surprised that the Solstice+Sky ever sold well in the first place.

Fat chance they will become truly collectible. A car has to be desirable when new to truly be valuable down the road. You may get your money back but you'll never make up the opportunity cost, insurance, maintenance, etc.

Not sure how that will work, since it is a rebadged Holden Monaro from Australia.

Very bad car indeed. They have one in red (top model) in a mall nearby and I have to check it out and drool every time we go by.

Not a bad idea. Get em and hold on to them, before prices spike.

The goat and a number of awesome cars to have come down the assembly lines of Pontiac shall rest in peace. Hope to see it reborn in the hands of GM someday.

For what it's worth I've enjoyed my father's Pontiac Solstice as with it's little turbo and nicely tuned suspension it makes for a fairly fun little car.

Sad to see the line go. For me, when I think of Pontiac, I think of the muscle cars. When they got away from that, It seemed like the future was in doubt. Just like the Oldsmobile's. Hopefully this move will help GM.
