  • Unsolicited Detailing ?

I have been so hyped the past 2 weeks over protecting our new cars. I've spent many hours on these forums reading great advice and spent hundreds on MEG products and other detailing accessories.

When my kid's piano teacher arrived today I saw his '04 CR-V looked like junk. Not just dirty - totally uncared for.

He is here for an hour and a half, so I mixed up some Gold Class Bath, sprayed it down and started to work.

Full tire/wheel prep. Body wash and dry. Window cleaning. Exterior rubber dressing. UQD on the hood, sides and roof. Quick interior wipe down. Vacuumed.

I probably violated most of Mike's rules as I did this car - single bucket wash - no clay or polish - sponge bath - newspaper on the glass, but I also sacrificed 2 microfiber towels on this POC drying and using the Quick Detailer.

He was stunned when he walked out. The look on his face was well worth the time I spent. And, it was kinda fun trying to make it look as good as I could before he left; plus I used up a lot of old product!

Have any of you cleaned a visitors car unsolicited when they came to your house? I actually enjoyed it.

    Cheers!
    Richard

Can MEG products restore this rusty old man?

I wrote "Wax Me" with wax on my aunt's faded Buick one time. She said it took a lot of waxing to get the hood to shine enough to not see it!

I removed a few scratches from a cousins door after they asked if they were too deep. They went inside and I came out without them knowing with some UC and Scratch x 2.0 hehe

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

            I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
            Remove swirls my friends.

I personally will "lightly" detail a rental car or a friends car when there not looking also!
And I don't think you broke any rules, at you did something, unlike the owner who did nothing! LOL

Definitely have done a few details out of pity for the car. There was a black SVT Focus at a dealer several years back that came in for a quick wash and I ended up giving it a full buffing as I wanted to cry when I saw the horrid state of its exterior. Had under 10k on the odometer too.

I have a friend I grew up with and he never cleans his cars. I mean he doesn't even go through an automatic wash!
Any time he borrows my truck to move something and I get his car I always find myself cleaning the car before I give it back. Like gmc1500 I feel worse for the car than I do for him (cars have feelings, right?)

                        Re: Unsolicited Detailing ?

At one of my friends auto repair shops a customer dropped off a 1967 or 1968 Pontiac Firebird with the original, oxidized single stage blue paint.

The car was to have the stock motor rebuilt. I asked the owner of the shop if I could stay after the shop was closed and buff out the paint and he said it would be okay.

Starting at around 5:00pm after all the mechanics left for home I did a "Complete" buff-out on the paint. Pretty much worked all through the night and stuck around till the owner and crew showed up the next morning.

The paint came out excellent and the car looked amazing.

I went home to go to bed and never met the owner of the car. Back then I charged around $300.00 to $350.00 for that type of work so he got a good deal and I had fun buffing out the single stage paint on a first generation Firechicken.

A business associate of my wife's came by one Saturday with his son in the kid's '06 Mustang. While the two adults reviewed some case files they were working on us two "kids" busted out the detailing equipment, washed and clayed the car real quick and then went over it with the G110 and some M66. That black 'Stang look 1000 times better and everyone was amazed at how quickly it was transformed. Since I had no idea this was going to happen that day I didn't get any pictures, but I'd say we did the whole thing, start to finish, in barely two hours. Not a show car finish by any means, but the young owner was totally thrilled at the outcome.

My daughter and her friend used to carpool to school. She left her car and keys at my house and I washed, clayed and waxed it for her. Also cleaned the headlights up, 2001 Honda Civic. They came home from class and she couldn't believe how nice her car looked. Her thank you and the follow up thank you call from her Dad made me feel good.
