  • Microfiber investment

I want to invest in good microfibers. I currently have about 30 of what i feel are nice microfibers from Advance autoparts that feel really soft to me and are in different colors(which doesn't really matter to me).

I want to invest in about 24 good microfibers for mainly removing wax, quick detailer, mainly that will touch the paint after polishing. If 24 is too much then suggest an amount, if its not enough suggest an amount. Currently i'm doing about one vehicle a week, maybe two. I have plenty of interior microfibers, and if investing in paint only per your suggestions then I will have more than I will know what to do with for a while.

So start shooting me you opion on a very good all around paint only microfiber.

I would set a budget for the microfibers and go from there.

For paint, the Ultimate Wipes are one of the best choices. Supreme Shine microfibers can be found pretty easily. If you are looking for a value, the ADS blue microfibers are very nice.

Ultimate wipes are the best for the paint. I also like using the supreme shine as well.
The advance auto parts microfiber towels are good, but I only use those for applying All season dressing and other stuff.

When it comes to stuff like the UW and SS towels, I want to keep them in the best condition possible because to me they are higher quality while the cheaper kind are great as well, they tend to lose the softness after a couple washes.

I think I spotted a UW at my local autoparts paint supply, it was very thin looking and white in color, is that the right one? it was like 5 dollars, thought that was really pricey for a thin microfiber.

huh, just referenced ADS and the UW is what I seen, i'll have to double check that price. You say they are nice though? The SS looks really nice!

              Re: Microfiber investment

In my opinion (take it for what that's worth), the Supreme Shine is the best valued all-purpose microfiber towel around. I held off getting one for a while because I was so caught up in getting the fancy super fluffinators and all those other $12 a towel special towels.

Then Rick from ADS through some SS towels in an order for free, and I was instantly hooked. I realized that 2 inches of fluffy towel is not only not better, it's worse. I found the amount of pile on the SS towels to be absolutely ideal for product removal (compound, polish, or wax).

The size (16x24) is much better than 16x16 towels as you get more coverage per towel, and it goes a long way.

I have literally 600+ microfiber towels, but 95%+ of the time I reach for a towel for paint or glass, it is the supreme shine.

You can buy them in 3 packs, and even a 36 pack from ADS and the price is quite fair. I think the main reason the SS doesn't get more "street cred" is because it lacks a fancy name, showy colors, and an extra inch of worthless pile.

              But that's just my opinion...

I agree with Mark, although I do have 6 Cobra microfibers from AutoGeek that I have enjoyed using. They are the Artic White microfibers, I got them on the BOGO Free promo they were running. Do I like them? Sure, they are nice and a bit more fluffy that I was used to. But, the Megs microfibers are very good and more versatile than the more expensive brands. Also, if you get a black spot on a $2 towel, you are much less disheartened than you would be after getting a spot on a $12 towel.

24 to 36 would be a good start. My suggestion would be to open maybe 6 or 8 towels, use them until they are ready to be retired and then open a couple more. Given your low usage, the towels should last a very long time. Check Amazon for a great price.

                  Re: Microfiber investment

I've built up a small collection over the past few months. 6 Supreme Shine towels, 20 white Vroom micro fibers, another 6 towels that came with the three Xmas promo TurtleWax Ice kits I bought just after Xmas (they were 75% off). But those towels are cheap and started falling apart after the first wash. I also have this big fluffy MF drying towel that came with a smaller thick gray mf towel in another promo kit from Vroom . Overall, my collection is holding steady, although I wouldn't hesitate to pick up cheap mf towels for cleaning non-painted surfaces.

                    Re: Microfiber investment

I tend to use Supreme Shines to remove the 'bulk' of the product, then the Ultimate Wipe to remove the last little bit.

I also have a bunch of Vroom ones for interior, glass, dirty spots...

There really is no exact number you need, just depends on how often you feel like washing things. If you wanted a rough number, say 2 per step you want to do. So, clay/clean/polish/wax is 4 steps, so having 8 for a detail would be a good minimum.

I would go with the Ultimate wipes and supreme shines for paint work. The quality of these towels are very good. Very durable and very well made.

24-36 total 24 Supreme shines, 12 Ultimates and that should hold you for a long time.

Just to add. Only speaking for the above towels. When you feel that they are losing the cleaning ability. When you wash them toss in a 1/4 cup of vinegar in the rinse cycle. Rinse them a couple of times. It seems to rejuvenate them.

looks like i'll be ordering some UW and SS here soon, and retireing all my older MF to interior and general work. Gotta figure out how to get that past the wife, but its easier to beg for forgiveness than as for permission, ya know!!

Sam's Club has a pack of MF's 24 for $9.99 and they work as good as the ultimate wipes.

The MF"S from Sam's Club must be a 20 times better than the MF's from Costco if you're rating them as good as UW.

The Meguiar's Ultimate Wipes are the best. I have a dozen different kinds of MF Towels and for paint I rate the UW the best and then the SS. All the other ones leave lint or aren't as soft.

For windows you can't beat the Buff & Shine Heavy Duty Microfiber Glass Towel from ADS.
