  • This might be a dumb question...

OK, this might be a dumb question, but I'm going to ask anyway. Are there any Meguiar's products that can be used to take swirls out of a marble bathroom sink? (Yes, I know, I spend too much time on MOL, but who doesn't?) I was in the bathroom the other day and noticed the swirls, and immediately after I noticed them, I thought to myself, that must be scary when you start looking for swirls on everything. Anyway, just thought I'd ask.

Meguiar's does not make any specific products for polishing marble, but here is a link to a few threads where others have used various Meguiar's products on counter tops.

I dont know if you will be able to remove swirls from a rock with paint care products.

That said, you can certainly shine it up.

          Well marble is pretty hard
          So start buffing!
Even if you use just a wool pad, you'll polish it up
Your going to have to remove some rock to level it out
You will get a better looking sink and don't forget to wax it
Check out you local counter top/kitchen place, heck even Home Depot might have something.
I'd start with the wonderful M105

Yeah the rock has some kind of finish on it most likely. Get M105 to get the swirls out. I have done this on many peoples counters with success.

              Really?
You've done it all, haven't you?
              And your only 16?
When did you start cleanning things?
For me it's as far back as I can remember.

We have some immitation marble at our house. After twenty years, they have a lot of swirls and scratches.

I tried using a wool pad and M105 on the rotary. While it was a huge improvement, it just rounded off some of the deeper scratches. I ended up using some 1500 grit papers to sand the surface down. This removed 75% of the scratches and I pretty much gave up.

They do make special pads and abrasives for polishing granite surfaces, though.

Just after I read your thread, I ran an errand to Ace Hardware. I saw a bottle of Marble Polish shelved next to the auto detailing section. Noted the name (Lundmark) and the website listed on the back of the bottle. Here's the link to Lundmarkwax.com. The hyperlink will take you to their Marble cleaner and polishes. Better to use a product designed for a specified use than trying to adapt another meant for different finishes, IMHO.

Re: This might be a dumb question...

When removing scratches out of anything keep in mind what that means... it means you have to remove particles of the material you're working on in an effort to level or flatten-out the surface.

One factor that has to be taken into consideration is how hard the material is and another factor is how polishable the material is? Some materials lend themselves better to being abraded with the end result looking good than others.

When we talk about Marble there's a difference between real or natural Marble and man-made or Cultured Marble.

Just by coincidence, Meguiar's used to offer a Marble Polish,

This product is at least pre-1989 as that's the year Meguiar's relocated our corporate office to Irvine.

                      Ciera-

hehe, don't feel bad. I once polished one of my toilets; black actually. I only did the lid though :-) I think I tried polishing the black sink, but the swirls never came out. Props to you though.
