  • How safe are your all jobs??

With the news everyday stating more and more layoff or more are coming.
It is getting rather scary to say they least. So far we have our jobs here at home and are thankful for that. I know of many who are out looking. Who knows what will happen in the future.

Well my dad's been laid off since early September and there aren't that many good signs coming from any company he as talked to so far.

Luckily I work for a Union and they can lay me off, but I get paid for 2 years after that and if I do re-apply, I have first priority. Works out pretty well in my opinion.

Luckily for me, I am in operations at a large LTL trucking company. However a lot of companies are folding and or being bought out by other trucking companies. I have been here for 13 years and I have never seen it this slow. Nobody is buying anything! I have seen a big increase in lay-offs which we have never had before. We also have some of the drivers in on-call status which means they call in and maybe they work and maybe they don't.

      Yes it is scary.

        Scary stuff!

I've been laid off since December 23rd. Doing freelance architecture work now and loving it. Seems like a lot of places don't want to pay to keep someone on staff to only work part time. So I've found a niche picking up work from those companies. Right now I have more work than time to do it. However I don't know how long that will last. Trying to make as much as I can now and save it for a rainy day.

My best friend has been laid off for pretty long. I think he's filing to extend his unemployment. He's been sending out countless resumes and not getting may interviews.

Wish you all the best of luck keeping and finding work!

I just lost my job in January of this year. Spent 12 years with the company. Finding a new job has been extremely frustrating.

Got "laid-off" in Jan. Now have one night at the Caffe after they re-opened. One night at Bellotti's (restaurant across the street). Just had an interview today for a third job at a local, small grocery store.

I am good to go. Currently, I work for the VA and have done so for 7 years. In my particular field 79% of personnel can retire tomorrow. Opportunity is everywhere in the next few years.

I dont work but my dad has been wondering whats going to happen with him. He works at a bank and doesnt know whether or not he is gonna get "laid-off" or if he is now secure. He has been good so far, they have gotten rid of some so we think he is safe, but he is at a bank so you never know.

As for the economy being so bad...i dont know about where yall are but i know down here everytime ive gone out to eat it has been extremily packed! Around me it doesnt seem like people are paying to much attention to stuff haha

Re: How safe are your all jobs??

I feel for anyone going through the trauma of losing a job and trying to find another one. I was removed from my company over a year ago after 22 years and it took me 9 months to find another comparable job. Took a significant salary adjustment but got healthcare, which is huge when you have kids...I think alot of this is fueled by the media and the "fear" of what might happen. Even if there is good news, they're like "the market is up today, but...." why can't you just leave it at that...I've stopped reading the paper and watching the news...

I wish anyone looking for employment the best of luck. And pray that this bottoms out soon so recovery can begin.

I like to think I will have a job for a while, but one never knows. I work for a company that rebulids & sells parts and accessories for the Early Indian Motorcycles. We have been just busy as heck. With the economy the way it is, Its hard to believe how busy we are. On the other hand, Along with the Indian Motorcycle company, There is another big part of the company that deals with metal and plastic fabrication. Building gas tanks and steel frames for utility trucks, anything steel or plastic. They have been to a stand still. Have laid off over half of the staff and cut peoples hours including my self. The two companys are under the same owner. It sure has been scary, They used to run 24-7. Now by early afternoon, the floor is pitch dark. Only a few handfuls of cars in the parking lot. I hope things change real soon!

I'm set. There will always be crime so my job won't be going anywhere soon.

On a side note, my prayers go out to the ones that have lost jobs. Keep your heads up and remember, everything happens for a reason.
