Catalina Island CA - Worth a visit?

Hi guys

Hopefully coming to the US in the summer, catch a Megs Class and visit the usual tourist hot spots. My girlfriend is keen on going to Catalina (following watching the film Glass Bottom Boat). Has anyone got any recommendations on where to stay on Catalina - not too pricey! And where to go when there.

Catalina is a cool day trip, but there's not really a lot to see or do. Some shopping, the required glass bottom boat ride, and get some lunch, that's about it. Not sure I'd want to stay more than a day.

You can rent a golfcart and drive around the whole place in an hour or two.
