Re: Brits Crazy Car Wax Test
As for machines testing waxes, Meguiar's has purchased and tested tools like a Gloss Meter in the past and eventually either thrown them away or given them away as they cannot evaluate all of the dimensions that the human eye can evaluate.
As for applying any product with your bare hand, read my comments in this thread...
Much to do about nothing...
Please, someone post in a well-explained write-up how applying wax with your bare hand is superior to the points made in the above thread. To date, no one has. Nuff said. The hype is just that... hype...
Like the layering controversy, the silence is deafening...
At the end of the day, all that really matters is that you're happy. This means you like the price, you trust the company you're purchasing from, you like how the product applies and wipes off and you like the results.
All the tests in the world are fun to read but the magic that happens in your garage on your car's paint is truly where the rubber meets the road....
Seriously... test, test, test and test some more... everyone should read and/or watch these tests and after all the car wax dust has settled, the only thing that's ever going to really matter is what you find out when you use a product on your car in your garage.

Re: Brits Crazy Car Wax Test
So did he really just wipe away the dirt with a dry towel to clean an area for the gloss meter?

The black one demands attention, washing, detailing, waxing and an occasional dinner out at a nice restaurant. The silver one demands nothing and it looks just fine. I think the black vehicle is taking advantage of me, and the silver car is more my style. We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

And is it any wonder that the favorite finish was the stuff professionally applied? Want to bet the pros actually prepped the surface too, but we just didn't see it? And remember the washing comparison clip from a week or two ago? Yeah, a real test would have shown the proper way to hand wash a car and THAT would have proven to be the best method, not the machine washing that they ultimately gave the nod to.Michael Stoops

Re: Brits Crazy Car Wax Test
I actually believe a "gloss meter" is a bad idea, even if it were an accurate measure of gloss (which I doubt it is). There is NO replacement for the human eye.
For example, if I was to do a test and 10 out of 10 people saw panel "A" as looking better than panel "B", but the gloss meter said panel B had more gloss, would you rather be using the product on panel B, even though 100% of those who saw both panels liked panel A better?
The problem with such a device is that UNLESS it accurately converts the view from the human (ie: measures gloss as the human eye would see it), it is utterly useless, but nevertheless very entertaining.
I enjoyed it thoroughly!----------------------------------
