Teeth cleaning is like car detailing..

Alright so while at the dentist today I realized how much getting your teeth clean is like detailing a car.

So first they brush your teeth which is similar to washing a car, gets the loose dirt/food off of the surface.

Then they floss and use the little pick thingy to get the stuck on plaque off which is exactly like claying.

Then they polish your teeth with the polisher thingy to make them look shiny.

Then they apply fluoride to your teeth to lock in the shine and protect them, exactly like waxing.

See how car crazy I am...

And from this post Meguiars for teeth was started. And it was good. With blazing white teeth from sea to shining sea and gleaming around the world.
The first Megs polish for teeth was Hot Rims for Grills. With Barry Meguiar himself dropping the product on his show Car Crazy. From there to Gold Class Crown and cap wax came about knocking Crest out of the marketplace.

And yet, somehow, I don't think my rotary buffer with M105 on a wool pad would have been an alternative to the double root canal I had back in October.

I've also never given a car a shot of Novocaine prior to detailing. Is that mean?

But if you had been doing the 5 step process on your teeth, maybe you would not have needed the double root canal.

Much as I hate to admit it, you are 100% correct. Preventative maintenance is always better than correcting a defect and I have no one to blame but myself.
