  • Ebay Items

yesterday, 01-21-09, I came across a thread about megs items on ebay going for around $6 or so for lots of items shipped for free. I cant seem
to find it now. anyone know what i'm talking about?

i won an auction of 6 tins of gold glass paste wax for $6. free shipping. now the seller has no items left and has a bunch of negative responses of people saying the guy was a scammer.

it's only $6 dollars so I took a chance on it besides pay pal should take care if me if it was a scam I think?

When I look up Meguiar's stuff, I enter:

    Meguiar's
    Meguiar
    Meguiars
    Mirror Glaze
    Mirror Bright

    and search away

I've seen the free shipping on stuff. They may come from the same guy.

I wouldn't worry about it for a while, seems like everybody's jumping on the bandwagon. As of this morning the oldest auction from the negative Feedback was only 5 or 6 days ago.

Seems like one guy got worried a bunch cuz the seller doesn't communicate worth squat. Guy with multiple auctions pasted him with multiple negatives cuz he doesn't provide Tracking numbers for his shipments screaming SCAMMER and others jumped in and put his Feedback down. Appears some complaints led to eBay looking into this and his other auctions disappeared. Geeez, some of the negs are from auctions that only ended 2 or 3 days ago! How can you scream because you haven't received something?

I e-mailed the guy right after the auction ended inquiring about combining shipping on both auctions, the guy got right back to me and left pos Feedback. His reply indicated he's a man of few words. ::::shrug::::

I e-mailed a few of the buyers that left positive Feedback and the impression I got is the seller is a bit disorganized, maybe a bit slow to ship and not into responding to e-mails from nervous folks.

I'm waiting for a $19 order. I'm not even gonna think about sniffing around until 7 - 10 days have passed. We'll see what we see... If the guy is really a scammer he sure doesn't aim very high.

I changed a few words out to be a bit more family friendly. I know there wasn't anything obscene, but we like to keep things ultra safe here on MOL. Hope you understand.

As for the topic, with my experience with scammers when someone is a "man of few words" that is NOT a good thing. I suggest you stay on top of things, and I wouldn't wait 7-10 days personally.

I didn't wait either. notified ebay and pay pal right away. I emailed the guy and no response. i checked out the guys bidding against me and they were all user names....t***a, h****r, etc. they were the only people bidding against me and bid immediately after i did and only when i did. some of the auctions i bid on i waited til the last seconds and let them out bid me by .50. all their bids were in .50 incrimints. We'll see what happens i guess.

Wilco. I am a bit colorful at times I shall revert to plain vanilla mode when I post here.

Although under the circumstances it would seem prudent to initiate action, I don't know how reasonable it might be to file an Item Not Received claim 3 days after an auction ends. When I submitted my bid the guy's Feedback was exemplary except for one guy screaming "SCAMMER" because he received no reply to his request for a Tracking Number, *ONE DAY* after the auction ended! That neg Feedback was later modified with the edit indicating a resolution. But the big red blob and Negative count still remain, regardless of the satisfactory outcome. Since eBay changed things and denied Sellers the ability to leave negative Feedback many Buyers seem to have no hesitation blotting somone's otherwise excellent Feedback record.

It's hard to say what's going on, the seller uses one of those marketing concerns that structures the listing and sends automated communications at auctions end. Like I said earlier, he replied to me briefly but promptly when I contacted him about combining shipments. Other than an avalanche of neg Feedback from auctions that are mostly only days from ending I have no indication anything's amiss.

I agree, communication is paramount in preserving trust when dealing with an unknown, unseen seller or buyer online. But I've been the victim of premature and rash Feedback on eBay when I ended up flat on my back sick as a dog for a few days when I had something listed for sale. The buyer didn't get an immediate reply so a few hours later he blasted me, as his parcel was on it's way to him. Had I had a bunch of auctions going on I may well have had the same bunch of nervous folks filling my in-box... and at that time they wouldn't have gotten replies either.

::::shrug:::: We'll see what we see.

Lack of response isn't good, period.

Nothing unusual about that at all, eBay started removing Usernames and started blocking them with ast*r*sks some time ago to protect accounts and prevent fraud. The only Username you see in bid listings is your own.

some of the auctions i bid on i waited til the last seconds and let them out bid me by .50. all their bids were in .50 incrimints.
Exactly how Proxy Bidding works.... if the current bid is $1 but the current high bidder's highest bid is $10, when you bid above the current bid but below that bidder's highest bid, the earlier bid immediately ratchets up to the next bid increment above yours automatically. Nothing sinister about it. I can never figure out why people constantly jockey back and forth bidding against each other and trying to snipe at the last second. Proxy bidding is automatic, you enter the highest bid you're willing to pay, others do the same and everything else is automatic. You either end up high bidder or you don't.

I am an amatuer on Ebay. i did notice the high positive feedback on this guy prior to bidding and that was why i actually bid. As soon as i won the auction is when i checked the guy out and found all the negative feedback indicating this guy changing his story everytime the same person asked the same question.

hopefully i get my stuff and this guy gets his money. at the end hopefully he learns to run a better business.

Only reply I saw from him was in response to the first negative, which was only one day after that auction. Then it gets worked out and there's no way to remove the negative.

Agreed. I'm waiting for a response from him now. Although it may sound like I'm defending him I half expect to be left holding the bag myself. Initially it looked like a dogpile with everyone getting nervous and making assumptions without allowing sufficient time after the auction to know whether they're really getting stuck or not. I see some of those auctions are approaching two weeks now. Even considering a slow ship and UPS' normal slow service, that's too long.

Should folks begin receiving their stuff I don't expect many to go back and edit their Feedback... what are they gonna put, "OOOOPS"?

My guess is PayPal nor eBay is going to be much help in event the Feedback is, in fact, accurate. EBay doesn't do much more than try to put the two parties in touch. And PayPal will only return $$$ if the guy has money in his account. A scammer will be moving the loot out as fast as it comes in. In any event, with all the claims filed you can bet that account is empty now.

                    It's chargeback filing time!!!

Seriously, PayPal is a waste of time. Chargebacks are pretty simple to iniate, but you must file all of the paperwork and check on the case often.

I did not see this guy as a scammer, but I always have some eBay transaction go wrong in January...

Really? Out of hundreds of auctions as both buyer and seller this is the first one I've had a problem with.

As for a chargeback, I think you might have to wait until PayPal tells you you're out of luck before the CC company is gonna take action.

                        Re: Ebay Items

You can iniate a chargeback at any time. Just call up your credit card company and dispute the charges. Then, you can send in the paperwork they request.

If you are the seller and have a chargeback against you, the amount is immediately taken out of your PayPal account. PayPal will also send you an email about the chargeback.

If anyone else over here was messed over, please post on this thread or let me know (PM). That way, we can share any available knowledge.

Last year I purchased some tools on ebay thru paypal from a seller with 100% positive feedback. After he wouldn't answer any of my e-mails and his feedback went negative on his last sales,I contacted paypal and the only question asked was a delivery date promised.About two-three weeks later my card was credited. I have purchase about five hundred items so far and luckily thats the only problem I've had.

That's the trick, eh? He's gotta have a balance in his PayPal account. Assuming this guy is an out and out fraud and not dead or laying in a hospital I'd think he'd be transferring loot out as fast as it comes in.

Been watching his Feedback go down by the hour, it's now negative. Just for grins I started adding up totals and the non-delivered sale prices come to around $2500 so far. Just trying to get 18 bucks worth of entertainment cuz I don't think I'm gonna see the loot again.
