Anyhow, I'm home now, and doing good. Doc said I need to be walking 2 miles everyday by next week. I have no idea how I'm going to do that

Anybody wanna come over and walk me?
    Nick -

What exactly did they do? Fusion? How long were you in the hospital? Sorry to hear you are in so much pain.

I know it's not fun. I just had my 4th back surgery two weeks ago (Jan. 6th). This week I've really started to go stir crazy being cooped up inside all day. There are only so many posts on the detailing forums to read each day. All I can suggest is getting some good books. Not sure how it is for you, but I really couldn't be on the laptop much the first week because sitting hurt my back and I knew I wasn't supposed to be sitting for very long. I'm supposed to be walking a lot as well but it's so dang cold outside that I have to walk laps in my house!

I hope you get better soon and your pain decrease quickly. It's not a fun process, but the end result should have you feeling TONS better than before you went under the knife.

EDIT - Little bit of advice: Take advantage of this time to rest and heal, even if you are not hurting. After my first surgery, I got too active too quickly after surgery because I didn't have any pain. I ended up re-herniating the disc the doc had just fixed, which resulted in a 2nd surgery (post-operation was the worst pain of my life because they had to open me back up and fix everything all over again). So, follow the rules (ie - no lifting more than 10 lbs.) and stay down and rest as much as possible, unless you're walking.

If you're married and you have a good wife, you should be very well taken care of!

Hmmm... How much does your Makita buffer weight? Step away from the tool sir.

      Feel better soon!

Glad you are home and the surgery was a success. Follow the Doctors orders and you will be good to go sooner then you think. From all the surgeries I have had the best advice I can give you is this. Do exactly as the Doctors say. In the long run you will be better off for it.

        Good luck in your recovery.

          Nick,

Glad to hear it went well. Rest up and get healthy. As for the the walking you part, only if the leash is included

Glad your home Nick. If I lived by ya, I would come walk with you but don't tell the wife , she can't get me out of the house to walk Okay, I do walk with her but not often, she usually asks after 12 hours at the jail and I'm bushed if we were busy!

Do what the doc's tell you! If they say don't lift anything more than a gallon of milk, then by all means don't do it! Sheesh, sound like my mother! "and change your underwear"

Anyways, 8 weeks is not a long time considering what you had done, the medical technology is getting better.

            Feel better my good fellow.

Like everyone else has said Nick, take it easy & don't rush it, and be thankful you don't live in the north. Today was the first day the temps were not down in the single digits at night for probably 2 to 3 weeks and snow is everywhere. But maybe being in the north would be better because then you woildn't want to go outside. I hope your recovery goes well.

Hey, Nick. Time to tend to the body. You have an LA Fitness center nearby? They can get you back in a hurry. Good luck.

Well, the first night home was a total disaster
I think I got a max of 2 hours of sleep. Woke up with tears in my eyes all night long. Finally got up around 2am, and been up ever since. Man, I hope this isn't the norm

Re: Just got home from the hospital...

                            First night man.....

When I broke my femur, I had surgery, pins, staples, ligament relocation program, the first few nights were bad, mucho pain but it didn't last and 21 years later, it's okay. Jello knee as the doctors call it but at least I can work full duty at the ol' jail, even after blowing it out again in '95.

Keep your chin up my friend, it won't last and do the therapy the docs say. When I first hurt my knee I got it to 98% of my other knee as far as strength. The doctor was shocked to say the least, I told him I was 18 at the time and wanted a normal life. The only side effect was I couldn't serve my country in the armed forces.....Military don't like knee surgeries apparently.

Keep your spirits high and I'll say a prayer for you.
