  • Clean cars off with a snow shovel @ a dealership

They clean their cars off with shovels. Directly on the paint and all... Wow.

    I'd never shop there!

I think it is a piece of rubber not a shovel.
But I think like the water blade if there is a piece of dirt it would scratch a lot.

Whoa I thought it was an actual shovel before I saw the video. That's crazy.

I thought it was a shovel while I watched it, then I realized what carfire said it's probably a squeegee but they did say in the news report "shovel" so I was confused, but glad to know it's probably "only" rubber.

I have seen them do that around here (Iowa) I do know they are not shovels but either way probably not the best way to remove snow from a new car. On the other hand not sure there really is any other quick and easy way other than the sun and warm weather.

You pretty much summed it up. There really isn't an quick and easy way. Unless the dealers want to invest in dozens of kerosene heaters.

Leaf blowers work wonders, they don't touch the car, they can be purchased in back pack form so you can easily walk around a parking lot with it.

I should sell my idea, if anybody steals it I'm going to sue you - haha.

But really, I think a backpack leaf blower would be idea for cleaning powder off cars. Obviously it wont work on ice, but neither would that squeegee.

Re: Clean cars off with a snow shovel @ a dealership

Video bring back memories working at dealerships. The device is called a snow broom. They can be found on the net. Best way to use one get the snow off the windows and let the sun in and melt the snow. Chop up the wet snow on top and get it a light push off. it works better than you think guys. It is made out of coated foam with stick that's all it is.

One more thing The disco that you guy's talk about. 1) Half the time it's fisco not disco that's right factory swills not dealership ones.
2.)The village idiot that you have in your mind killing a car with a rotary I wouldn't say its a myth. But, I will say at the dealerships where I worked one would have to have work there a good while before they train you work with one. They don't have a lot of time but, they don't want the car to come back either.
3.) One big problem is the automatic car washes that some dealers have.Old brushes swill the paint.
4.) Got a problem with your new car talk to the dealer about it. It's their CSI that we are talking about guys. About which means it's their a$@ on the line.

Pretty much every dealer that gets snow uses these (snow brooms) its pretty much the only thing that will reach all the way across. A leafblower wouldnt work because some snow is heavier/wetter.

Even given the fact that it is rubber. I think it has the potential to do some damage to the paint.
