Like right now. I could be working out but... I needed to check and reply to some emails, type of a proposal, pay some bills, balance my check book...
-24 tonight....don't think I'll be going to the gym!

Maybe I will wait until after I move in with the wifee.

      Hey Rasky!

This is my opinion 29.99 is not that bad really. I use to pay 49.99. the good thing going to the gym is the motivation u see others its different, then having a home gym. Maybe if your not finding purpose using your gym just pause it, maybe you pay a little fee and pause it for 3 to 6 months you have to check with your gym. Honestly its fun going set a goal. You will be happy

        Re: Any Bowflex users?

The reason i dont like the bowflex and similar machines is because they use elastics or something similar.

Get a rubber band and pull it. It's easy to pull initially. As you pull it futher and further, it gets harder to pull some more. You dont want that. You want the same resistance throughout the rep or motion.

Thats why i like either free weights or machines that use actual weights.

          Just my 2 cents,
I've owned a Soloflex which was a very nice sturdy machine, thing will probably last a lifetime, but I sold it. I then got a Crossbow (Bowflex knock off) I still have but never use it anymore either. Problem was really not the machine, but me always finding an excuse not to use it. I dont think any of these machines are what you want if you are wanting to be a body builder, but they do help you firm up, and work your muscles, plus they are better than doing nothing!

Working at IU, a couple of years ago I decided to join their rec-sports center, very cheap they have anything I want to do. I go over on my lunch hour and either swim, do weights, or some form of cardio. I dont find any excuses not to work out when I am there either, I just go at it as hard as I can for that hour. It's the best thing I've ever done for myself. I will say out of anything I can do, lap swimming for an hour is probably the best exercise I've ever done, it wipes away any stress and makes me very relaxed when I finished and it will slim you down and tone you.

Any routine you get in, do something you can stick with and come to enjoy. If your dreading it, your probably not going to stick with it. Find something you like and just make it part of your daily lifestyle.

i had the same dilema a while back. bowflex says their bands dont wear out but they DO. Go to any gym equipment store and they will tell you. I benched 300lbs on a used bowflex 3 years ago when i was out of shape. for half the money you can buy a gym quality adjustable bench and 300lb weight set. if your looking to gain muscle mass your gains will be 100% faster and your efforts more effective with free weights. I spent around $1500 over the last three years and have an almost complete weight room in my basement.

                Re: Any Bowflex users?

Well since the girl and I are getting married, and I will eventually be moving into her place and selling mine, maybe I will just stay at Gold's for now. Once I move in with her it will be to far to drive. The Liftime by her house is ridiculously expensive so maybe I will buy a home gym then.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I guess I need to stop making excuses and just get my lazy butt to the gym.

This is going to sound like an ad for LA Fitness but really it is just my opinion.

I have a moderate amount of home equipment. Weight bench, treadmill and exercise bike. I use them when the weather is bad or I'm under the weather. I am also a member of LA Fitness. This is a steal, IMHO. For $35/month I get access to top of the line gear that is well maintained and it gets replaced about every 6-9 months. And not just one machine but close to two hundred. All sorts of gear for working various muscle groups. Tons of large screen plasma monitors around so I can catch up on the news while working out too. There is also an olympic sized pool, yoga and cardio rooms. Steam rooms, saunas, vollyball, basketball, indoor track you name it. The best $35 a month I've ever spent, IMHO. The center is about 5 blocks from my Florida home. I head over first thing every morning and make a point to spend an hour or more. I'm 66 YO and still have a 32" waist. I have more energy and stamina now than I did when I was teen. In fact I weigh within 15 pounds of what I did in 1960.

Lots of staff and trainers there to offer advice and encouragement too. The place is never full so contention for gear is low. For what I pay for a year ($35 * 12 = $420) I couldn't buy a single decent machine.
