  • Where's "Octane Guy"?

Just wondering what he is up too. Figured Mike P. would probably know.

He does some amazing rotary work.

    He's over on ShowCarDetailing.com.

Edit: Oh ya, they just changed it over to noswirls.com.

I dont think he is much of a Meguiars user any longer.

Found him at that site. He used 105 in some of his recent details. Glad to see he's doing well though.

I cruise his SCD site, he does use Meguiar's products but uses a lot of the Prima System now.

I wasn't aware that he developed Black Wow. That's proabably the best exterior dressing I've ever used, but it's too $$$ for me to use on details.

If I remember right, his dad was a chemist for Maybelline. It's really good though. A little goes a long way and lasts forever.

I was at his shop a couple months back and seems to be doing well. He has the PS3 setup with Gran Turismo I believe it is. Steering wheel, pedals and the flat screen. Very very cool.

Richard (OctaneGuy) is doing well, just saw him yesterday at the SCD shop. He's been keeping busy with some details, and running the retail side of his business.

Here's a link to Richard's first post on page 3 of this thread,

Mini Coopers at Meguiar's NXT Garage!

The actual URL address for the above thread is,

                      http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5

Which was the 5th thread on this forum as it was brand new, so Richard's definitely been around for awhile.

I think the below shot is from the first class he attended in 2003, note the neon lights and paint scheme on the wall as that's all changed now and I'm pretty sure the NXT Tech Wax bottle on top of Lil Octane was a Lab Sample in a mock-up bottle as production product didn't start shipping until January of 2004

There's some pictures missing in the above thread since we switched back to vBulletin from Community Server and lost all the pictures in the CS Gallery, but I recently found them on my hard drive and will re-insert them.

                          Re: Where's "Octane Guy"?

Hey everybody...I heard my name being called!

Yes I'm still using a lot of Meguiar's products from the M105 compound to the Detailer line for maintenance and metal polish. Pretty much the only thing I'm not using much of is the Meguiar's fine/med polishes or the waxes.

But like today, I wetsanded and compounded using M105 a couple of cars that we just painted.

As for BW--yep that's a product I created with my father. And nope he never worked for Maybelline---he was head of R&D for Max Factor at one point though--maybe that's where the confusion is.

Pretty cool going back and looking at the MINI Cooper thread and seeing where it all began for me.

The Meguiar's garage clinics got me interested in being a pro paint polisher, and of course through Mike Phillips tutelage I learned from the best and got a foundation to be proud of.

Nice to see all the familiar faces here....oh and SCD will go back to being SCD in the coming months. Due to a bad web host, I had to move everything and for the interim, have been using this domain.
