  • MOL College Students- Spring 2009

I just registered for my classes. Finally high up enough with units not to be the last to register. I just got half of my required upper division core classes, woot!!

    FIN101- Business Finance
    DS101- Data Analysis for Managers
    MKTG 101- Principles of Marketing
COMS103- Presentational Speaking in the Organization

Finishing up this current semester which was:
    ECON100B- Intermediate Microeconomic Theory
    ECON135- Money and Banking
    MGMT102- Business Communications
    MGMT101- Legal Environment of Business

One more ECON class (I am looking for one right now. This would be my first 5 class semester and they would also all be upper division.), and I have a minor! Pretty sure anyways, lol!

EDIT: Just added ECON130- Public Finance. Not sure if I want to keep that though.

    How about you?

Re: MOL College Students- Spring 2009

If all works out with what I have going for myself, I would like to go to school for something computer related and detail part time until I attend a class or two to hone my skills down.

But, I'll be 40 in February and hard to teach an old dog (much less new tricks). LOL

Good for you though Tyler to stay in school. With the economy the way it is, every bit of schooling helps.

I got lucky and landed a job at the jail as a guard and can retire in 10 years if nothing else all with a high school diploma. To promote though on the other hand, a bachelor or masters is prefered.

        Currently at SDSU with:
        IDS 302 (Business calculus)
        California and US Govt
        Intro to Int'l Business
        Operations Management

The business calc is a toughie, but otherwise fairly easy schedule.

I have one more semester with all upper division business admin classes, but I won't register for a couple more weeks.

          Next semester I'll be taking:

ACCT 211 - Principles of Accounting II
          BUS 270 - Entrepreneurship
PSCI 160 - Inro to International Relations
PSYC 125 - Intro Behavioral Neuroscience
QM 227 - Introduction to Statistics

This past year, I switched from accounting to marketing, but it's still early to make the decision final.

I have to take the random courses to fill the requirements for the business department next semester. It shouldn't be too bad, but we'll see.

Best of luck to all students!

Re: MOL College Students- Spring 2009

I'll be starting college in Fall of 2009 and can't wait to get out of high school and starting taking classes that will actually interest me and allow me to learn. I'm going to do a transfer student path because when I graduate I'll already have all my elective credits and some math credits. I can take a ton of my courses online and finish my general education classes in a year and then transfer to one of the University's or Colleges of my choice and start my business classes.

            Good luck guys!

I'm done with undergrad, but currently getting my MBA.
Taking exciting subjects such as: Exec. Level Corporate Accounting, Business Intelligence & Reporting, etc.

Just a tip: For those who are technically inclined, you might want to look at Business Intelligence as a good career starting point. The pay is fantastic and it's a challenging skill that is in demand.

myaeger18- Sounds like fun man! I love computers, but not that much, hehe!

Aaron- I appreciate the words! The ultimate plan is to have a Masters in Business Finance and possibly Risk Management and a Bachelors in Economics.

Mark- I feel you, lol! I already have my GOV and HIST done, thank goodness. What a nightmare! I can't take OPM101 though until I finish DS101 and get approval. After Spring of '09, I will only have 3 upper division core classes left and then my 4 concentration classes (can't take those until FIN101 is done). If I keep my ECON class, I should have my minor after next semester. Then some GE and done hopefully. BTW, since we are both in the CSU system, I'm hoping the class abbreviations make sense!

Chris- I had to teach myself statistics in my intro class. Teacher had a very strong middle eastern accent. It isn't too bad though. I have a statistics chart somewhere I can copy for you (if I can remember where I put it) that would help out. It has the t-value charts, equations, etc...

Ryan- you will like college! There are bits and pieces I still miss about high school, but college is still better!!! Sounds like you've got a plan hammered out, which is better than most! I am glad I did too! Saved me time and trouble later.

                    onnfire- Good luck, lol!!!

Don't discourage yourself. I've done major career changes 4 times into completely different industries with no problem. I've also taken a number of certification courses and Tech School courses for my own personal use, non-career related. If anything, I've found school to be much easier now, than it ever was when I was younger. I'm far more focused and less distracted. If time allows I'll be taking another course next fall in Network engineering.

If you have the time and money, do it. You won't be sorry. BTW I'll be 41 in March.
