Since down here/up here in South Eastern Wisconsin we just got some snow today. Since I work on the Fire Department I know that the roads were bad today. There were dozens and dozens of accidents in the surrounding counties including Ozaukee. Many of them had injuries. I just wanted to put out a friendly reminder too of of those who live in the Midwest or get snow to drive safely. Remember to drive at least 5 mph under the speed limit when there is the possibility of ice and when it is snowing to do the same. The snow plows can not always keep up with the weather and keep the roads clear. Please drive safely and make this a safe winter for all of us.

Re: Winter Driving
We had some flurries but no accumulation here. It's always amazing how many cars are in the ditch on my way to work after the first snow fall of the year. Everyone seems to forget that snow/ice is slippery. So like Joel said... Slow down! I always remind my friend that driving a bit slower will get you there a lot faster and probably cheaper than getting into an accident just once.Scott

IIRC, it's kinda like rain (as if I'd really know what that is either) only colder. i think this "snow" stuff is usually made by special machines up in the mountains and people go there and slide down it on sticks.
MortYou guys are lucky!!!
I'm happy to send anyone a box of snow that wants one. The UPS store by me has cooler boxes. I won't even charge for the snow, just the packaging and shipping. Heck I won't even send the yellow stuff.Scott

Re: Winter Driving
Good tips on winter/snow driving.
For those of us here in SoCal who drive convertibles, remember that you no longer need SPF30 sunblock - SPF15 is fine until March.

We had some sun here today. Not sure if you would want the top down with the 17 degree temp this morning. It's warmed up to a toasty 28 right now.Scott

Re: Winter Driving
We are about due for some snow here. Having grown up seeing 4 very different seasons, I think I'd find it boring to have summer (and variants of it) all year long.
It's -10C here right now, but still no sign of snow. A couple inches to start with would be great, what good is 4wd on a dry paved road ?

My sister moved to LA about 7 years before I did and it took here a loooong time to get used to year round nice weather. She actually moved back to Michigan last year and loves it! If I want snow in the winter I just make a 90 minute drive to the local mountains then drive back home and wash my car in shorts and a T-shirt at the end of the day. Next day....... the beach!
Of course, my house is on a lot the size of a postage stamp, the overall cost of living is insane here and, oh yeah, did I mention the fires and earthquakes???Michael Stoops

Re: Winter Driving
These past few years have proved that Southern Indiana can get a little of everything.
-5.0 earthquake of '02
-22 inches of snow in two days in '04
-F3 tornado of '05
-Ice storms of '08
-5.4 earthquake and aftershocks of '08
-Flood of '08
What's next?
Back on topic...
Don't even try and drive with summer tires on the snow - had to give a Crossfire a push last year. If you drive a truck, you may want to put some weight in the bed.Last edited by PorscheGuy997; Nov 20, 2008, 10:33 AM.Chris
