I’m sure most of you know how expensive ink for our printers can get so, I was wondering what some of your experience have been in replacing your ink cartridges.
Do you use OEM cartridges or other? Do you refill yourself? Where do you buy from and what do they sell? Etc.......

I have a Dell AIO printer and was wondering if maybe there was a good alternative for me other than Dell. I was told some re-manufactured cartridges will show empty on my computer because they can’t be reset to full because of their design by Dell. I was also told Databazaar sells new non-OEM cartridges that are of quality; know anything about those?

Lets hear your stories good or bad...........

I use a LaserJet, but my parents get their ink refilled at Walgreens.

For my brothers HP printer, we just get the black and color package for $27. I got my printer for free when i bought my laptop from Circuit City in 2006. Its a Lexmark and of all the places I've searched, Circuit City is the only place to get it....$40...

Didn't know you could refill cartridges..

We have an HP 3210 AIO that uses the "02" series of inks. We use factory ink bought at Staples as when you bring an empty cartridge back, they give you a 3 dollar coupon (at least last time we went there) and I think you can use up to three on future purchases. We usually buy the multi pack and get the 9 bucks off, been a while though.

We haven't been there in a while so, the 3 dollar coupon may be nill with the economy and what not. We just haven't printed a lot in a while.....

Trust HP when they say OEM is better than aftermarket. I've seen the raw data. You may save up front, but you'll never get the page count out of a refilled or aftermarket cartridge. Aftermarkets and refills don't use the same ink or have the same print quality as OEM. This is true for virtually all printer brands. The bad thing is that no one actually counts pages and just looks at the up front cost. Hope this helps.

I'd suggest a cheap laser printer if you are doing lots of B&W printing. My Samsung gets about 5000 pages per ink cartridge. You can refill them easily with some of the kits. I haven't refilled mine personally, but it seems rather straightforward. FYI: I have the Samsung ML-2510 and it does great regardless of some Amazon reviews.

Inkjets are a drain on the wallet, I've never had good luck with them.

I have a Canon printer with I think 7 different cartridges. It costs more to buy Canon ink then to just buy a new printer. This last time I bought all 7 cartridges off ebay for like $10. They are some no name brand. I was trying to print a coupon with a upc label on it but the aftermarket print was so blurred it wouldn't work. The ink also smells bad. So with all those complaints, I'll still buy the ebay ink next time. I don't print out anything that has to look good or last along time. So it works fine for what I need.

My printer also can print directly on to CD/DVD's so that's mainly what I use it for. Works great for that too.

I can only speak for HP cartridge.
Use original HP cartridges, don't try to refill.

If you have and HP with refilled cartridges then your image quality would not be the same, your printer can malfunction, you can even damage the printer because of this

The company I work at is a HP Partner and I've seen lots of inkjet printers die because of this.

I've had pretty good luck with aftermarket epson cartridges from Ebay. I wouldn't use them for photos, but then again, why print photos from a printer when its cheaper to get real photos made on real photo film.

We just buy the packages at Costco and then return them to Staples where you get $3 back for each cartridge. Tried the refilling kits and all that good stuff and between the time and mess its just easier to go out and buy the real deal.

Thats exactly what I did. At the beginning of this semester I found out really quick that I was going to be printing out tons of notes from class. Most of my teachers use Power points then post them on the class website. I could just sit around on my computer and look at them but for tests I like to print them out so I can lay around and study them.

I ended up with the HP laserJet p1505n. Reviews were good on newegg.com and it wasnt TOO expensive so I got it. HP says it can print 2,000 B&W pages but I think Ill get a little more than that since slides do not use as much toner per page. So far Ive printed out 454 pages. Its kinda neat, you can push a button and it prints out an info sheet telling you all about the printer(and its fast!).

Had zero problems out of it and its nice to be able to plug a cat5 cable into it for a network..

After doing the math it will save money in the long run. Not sure how many pages a normal ink cartridge puts out but the toner for this one is around $60 and Im sure it prints many more pages..

More times than not, laser carts are much easier to refill than the inkjet....mainly because the inkjet carts are very small and delicate. The laser carts are usually as wide as the printer (or close to it) and quite sturdy. If memory serves me right, I paid about $50 for my laser printer at Staples, it was on clearance at the time.

A few weeks ago I attempted to get the $3 off for some used ink cartridges and they have quit the program as we use to know it. Now you have to have a staples card and you get rewards or something, not totally sure!?!? I do know for sure no more $3 coupons! :

That's wierd, I just returned some this weekend. Yes, you do have to have a Staples rewards card or whatever they call it and they just send you a check at the end of each quarter I believe. We got our check and it was over $50!!

I wish we had a staples here. I have 14 old cartridges here on my desk. I save them for the dogs. I get prepaid mailers from Petsmart, the money goes to help dogs.
