i will check this out. some of the guys want to do nothing but drink and it may be hard to put booxe in the kayak!
Get yourself a houseboat on Powell, find a nice beach and park the boat. All the guys that want to lay around and drink can, anyone that wants to hike, kayak, ski.....................etc can as well. Think of the houseboat as a floating hotel room with a kitchen and a deck.
We usually go out for 10 days at a time. Spend most of the first day traveling down lake, find a nice beach and park. We fish, hike, ski and lounge for a 5 days. Then we motor back toward the marina and find another beach about half way back and do the same thing for 4 more days and take the half day trip back to the marina. There are marina's up and down the lake so it's easy to make a quick run in if supplies get low.
Not to keep pushing Powell, but I'm bias, I've been all over the US, Mexico and Canada. Powell is unique in too many ways to list. Pictures just don't do it justice. If you haven't been, you won't be sorry you went.
For your buddies that just want to drink, if you go to Bullfrog at the north end, I will let my friends know your coming. I won't go into detail (family forum, already censored once in this thread), but we all know the best way to get to know a place is through the locals. In the end, if they can remember anything, they'll remember it was fun.
Email me if you want more details.

Life isn't about 'weathering the storm', it's about learning to dance in the rain.
heck no! one of the guys just bought a year old volvo black. it was full of rotary marks/trails and it looked horrible. i offiered to polish it out for him for free and he refused telling me it looked good and that he would just apply some wax to it.

this place sounds better and better everytime i check the forum. Most of the guys are leaning to lake powell so i'll send you a pm when we figure out exactly what we're going to do.
the house boats i've checked on were $7000/week but they were high luxury models. i'm sure there are cheaper ones but i'll have to look further. Who do you rent a house boat from?

I don't know how many you have going, so I'm not sure how much room you need. The 46' will sleep 6. Check out the Lake Powell web sight. here:
Discover adventure at our Lake Powell resort with RV and camping sites, houseboat rentals, and lakeside lodging, plus dining, watersports, boat tours, and more.
They list all of the boats, rental marinas, rates and seasons.
The 46' Expedition will sleep 6 and from 3/13-6/14 (Spring) rates are $3395 for 7 days. That's $565/person for 7 days.
Of course the rates on the lake are higher than private boats or off lake rentals. If you Google 'Lake Powell House boat timeshares or timeshare rentals' you should get a few hundred hits. There are always people who can't get away or afford to take their time on their timeshare boats. They are usually much nicer boats and often less expensive.
You can also Google 'Paige Arizona' and look for house boat rentals there, they're at the south end of the lake and the only place within 100 miles of anywhere on the lake that resembles a town (Really, at the north end of the lake from Bullfrog to Hanksville is 89 miles. Hanksville has 2 gas stations and 2 burger stands, it's almost a town.)
After I wrote all of that, it occurred to me that you may have been asking whom I 'personally' rent houseboats from. There is no simple answer there. I've rented from ARA (on lake rentals) at Bullfrog and I've taken timeshare boats that belonged to friends. Normally I get a call, usually around 3am from a less than sober friend, demanding I show up at the dock at (insert marina) by the next evening or I'll be sorry. What can I do? I usually show up. The few times I haven't, I was sorry. They showed up at my door the following day (very early) and attempted to abduct me.
the guys didnt go for lake powell. after plane tickets boat rental food and beer, the price got to be pretty high. i think we have settled for a week long trip to the Boundry Waters in northern Minnesota. Less than $500/person for canoe, equipment and food. All that is needed is a fishing pole and tackle.
