  • Down turn takes it toll on Swirl Free Polishing

    Hi All

Must be a sign of the economic downturn all over the world... We have had to close our polishing business and return to full time truck driving. but guess who's truck is the shiniest in the fleet.....

We have only had 4 cars in the last 3 months to polish.... not enough to keep food on the table..... even after plenty of advertising, trade shows and word of mouth all the "yep I'll get my car done" .... nothing

With the cost of living now so high, people can't afford to keep the toys looking good... lots have been put up for sale. We have had to stop work on our 37 Ford.

At least we can say "We gave it our best shot" you never know what the future might do but for now its back to our "fall back" trade.

So now it is just our weekend hobby to give us pocket money for fishing.

Sorry to hear in the change in your vocation as it's very apparent where your true passion lies from your posts to this forum, that said family first and this means doing what it takes to keep the heat on and food on the table.

We'll be hoping for the best for you in the future...

Sorry to hear about having to close your shop down. Hopefully the economy gets turned around and you can get some more fishing money.

Feel free to post some pictures of your shinny truck.

Sorry to hear that, times are tough, but hopefully a turn around after the election will happen.....

I figured those who can't afford a car would definately try to get their current car back in ship shape, I guess not.....

I have had no paid details in the last 4 months, whereas last year I had enough to keep my weekends full. I am fortunate that I have a full time job. I know that the economy is cyclical and will change.

Sorry Here this happened . It defenitley is a sign of the current times. Its been rough here to luckily I'm weekend Detailer and it has been slow 1 or 2 here and there .Sadly 4 out of the last 5 jobs that were booked the owner got layed off just before the details were to be done. Not much we can do about that. Luckily mine only pays for extra toys !!! Hope all works out !!!

I thought it was just me. I had a good friend who just bought a black 4 door Dodge Ram and I told him I would buff it for half price. Still no deal.

Same with us, AudionutMike and I haven't had any paying customers in a few months

Hopefully things settle down after the election. If gas prices stay down maybe the business will come back to us

Hopefully you will be able to keep detailing going on the side. Sounds like you may have had a shop before, but maybe you can just pick up in the mobile business. Good luck.

Sorry to hear about the shutdown. There is something to be said for being small enough to make a quick change to keep the food coming and the lights on.

I thought I might have some weekend work but, that seems to have evaporated. Damn Cable operators decide to jack their rates, now? Glad I'm only giving them money for internet access!

If people were wise they would invest money into having their car polished as they would feel better about keeping the car for a longer period since it would always look like new, hence save money on depreciation cost because the amount we pay for depreciation on a vehicle is the largest expenditure, and if we keep them longer it keeps that cost down

Thanks for the words of support. I know what you mean about keeping the car looking good. Unfortunately over here if the kids look bad they get taken away....... gotta think ... good looking car or good looking kids...

With so much Mequiars product in our garage we are trying to keep things going on the weekends.

Even got a new G220 Mequiars Buffer...... just need a paying car to pay for it
