Hey all,

Well on Wednesday while washing a car I dropped a bottle of Oil Eater and some of the product splashed in my eye. I couldn't see and rinsed it out for a couple minutes at the house I was at and for about 15 minutes when I got home. We called poison control and they said to go to ER immediately. They flushed my eye for about 30 minutes with some chemical on a huge contact with a tube coming out of it, it is VERY painful. My vision was coming back but still very painful, it burned horribly. The put some neon green dye in my eye to see where the damage was and my whole eye was damaged.

Luckily the swift actions of me and the ER gave my vision another chance but it might still be blurred for a long time. It is very painful still and I can barely open either eye and my eye is still swollen and bright red.

So please, please, please always wear goggles, you never know when this is going to happen. I didn't expect to drop the bottle, most people don't. It is one of the worst pains you will ever feel.

Please wear goggles at all times!!

Wow Ryan, I am REALLY sorry that happened to you. That's a horrible experience to go through I'm sure.

It also goes to show how much we can take for granted and how easily those things can be taken away.

I hope a speedy recovery comes your way buddy, hang in there.

Thanks for sharing your mishap and reminding all of us to invest in a couple pair of goggles or safety glasses for when we're working on our cars.

Hope your doing better soon Ryan! Take care buddy! I don't think there is a brail version of MOL.

Unfortunately for most, it is a lesson that is learned too late. After getting wood chips in my eyes countless times, I finally wear glasses when woodworking. I even picked up a pair of goggles for working with chemicals. Those are nice since stuff can't splash under them.

Also, there are goggles, and then there are splash reistant goggles for more dangerous stuff.

Sorry to hear about what happened Ryan. I hope everything gets back to normal for you.

I think the same can be said for ear protection, especially with a rotary! I have a good 30% hearing loss and I'm certain some of it is from my detailing equipment.

Man Ryan.... sorry to hear about that. I'm sure there were some very tense moments fearing what the damage would be. I sure hope you're back to 100% real soon.

I always have a pair of safety glasses handy when doing things that I feel warrant them, sometimes it's the simplest of things that most people wouldn't even worry about. But I have to say your accident reminds me that I should use them even more, sometimes we need a reminder of how fast things can go wrong, even doing the most mundane things.

Ryan, the important thing here is you caught it and started to flush your eyes immediately and got medical attention ASAP.

Eye protection can go with a ton of tasks we do around a house.

I don't always use eye protection until a cut off wheel blew up and I had pieces all over my shirt, face and the floor, not one speck hit my eyes. I think the good Lord was reminding me to do so and haven't failed him since.

Prayers and speedy recovery AND! do what the Doc's say to do

Ryan, Sorry to hear of this accident. Good you acted as quickly as you did. Way to keep a cool head. Glad you are making a full recovery.

It is a painful reminder to all of us. Please wear safety glasses. Hope your back up to full speed very shortly.
