  • How sick is your detailling sickness?

Ok, maybe it's not a sickness but when I find myself "lightly" detailing my rental car, completely detailing a loner car, or a friends car if they just come over to hang out. I feel it's a problem. I don't like dirty things. I clean everything I touch, then I shine it up.
Please share some of your stories so I don't feel like such a freak. lol!

This sounds serious. Maybe you should come by and we can talk about it while you detail my wife's Trailblazer.

I have 4 vehicles that I never have time to clean. Sounds like you're a great friend to have around

I don't know Nick, the van looks pretty clean to me. Lord knows we've seen it enough.

Oh yeah, the car looks OK also.

Ppphhhhh.........you guys are lightweights. The detailing sickness worked its way into every fiber of my being, so I walked away from a 20 year career in commercial print/direct response marketing sales and went to work full time for Meguiar's, taking a substantial pay cut in the process.

I usually just wash the rental car but its been so long since we've had one. I do end up washing and occasional waxing my aunts Altima when she comes over every now and then.

I just got back from the Detailiatric Specialist...I have detailcompulive disease which is a sometime fatal condition. He ordered me to just one detail a day...so I do two as a compromise!

Re: How sick is your detailling sickness?

I fixed my friends dads car, I think it is a 1983 280Z 2+2, severly oxidized and I said I will clean it for you for nothing. I spent two days cleaning it. Oh and when i bought my bird and when it had some paint I cleaned and polished and waxed it. I love SS paint. I have pics of the Z I think I can find them.

I found the pics. I was looking I did not find any before pics. But this car was brown and dull and very pale. I put a shine back in it but it is not perfect. I think I polishing that portion there.

Me standing next to the car. My friends dad told me that i added a grand on to the value. I still can't believe I did this all for nothing but just for the joy. Sorry for the crooked pic.

My wife and I always make Christmas lists for each other so it is easier to know what to get the other. We put what we want and the other person picks what they get. I just finished mine for the year and after looking at it it is 3/4 full of car detailing supplies. I have three cars lined up now for friends.

Although you can eat off the floors on my vehicles (well not really if you want to live) and I cringe at getting into a "freshly cleaned" rental (why can't they ever clean the windshield!!), I love to trash rental cars. My kids love rental cars because they can touch the windows, eat fast food and drink whatever they want. I still feel a bit guilty turning in a rental that I at least take the trash out of it . But I'll have to admit that I have taken a few rentals to the car wash...

In addition to my full-time career, I work part-time on the weekends for a large Rental car company ( kids private school tuition money). Please,Please, pretty please stop destroying the interior of these cars. Obviously, the way I clean these vehicles is much different than my personal vehicles. It is set up much like an assembly line and time is of the essence. I have been able to do some incredible turnarounds with absolutely trashed vehicle interiors (full size trucks seem to be the repeat offenders) is record time with Meguiars APC, another fleet specific vinyl protectant, and strategically placed odor eliminator. I do cringe everytime these vehicles go through the car wash knowing that numerous swirls have been professionally applied to the vehicle.

                              That's the way it goes....

Body mans car is rusty, mechanics car doesn't run right, and we detailers don't have time to wash are own rides, at least those who detail for a living.

I think my sickness is pretty bad...

Has anyone else worked late on a car and went to bed right after? I toss and turn for hours! I simply cannot fall asleep because I'm thinking about the car I'm working on all night. I got done last night at 11:00 and laid awake in bed till almost 2:00 before I finally fell asleep!

                              Drives me nuts!
