That's a rotary buffer, or a direct drive buffer.

The buffing pad will spin in one direction.

I have the exact same model. It is a rotary ,usually sold at Harbor Freight.

by next spring i will be moving up and getting my rotary skillz/practice on..

i was just going to get a makita learn it and keep it, which is the route i think i will stick with..rather than getting one of those then upgrading it..

It's a starter buffer, but after spending the $50 plus shipping, you find you would have been only another $150 away from the real-deal.

Alternative: I bought a decent Makita for $70 on Ebay.

These very often go at $30 specials in your local HF store. Can't get much cheaper than that, good enough for somebody that will use it maybe few times a year.

I have used it to do 4 buff outs and it's not bad for the money. Put the Meguiar's backing plate on it and a Meguiar's pad and your home free.

Complaint's
Throttle (speed level, etc) isn't adjustable, either your on on your off. Speed is adjustable though.

Easy to accidentally turn the speed up on the dial. No numbers on the dial.

A little noisy, but not too bad.

As said above, it's good enough for people using it a few times a year.

agreed with lilblkblt04. It is good enough to learn and practice on. If it dies after several uses, you did not lose much money.

I own one and have not had any problems yet.

I did tear the head unit apart and put some new grease in it and cleaned the contact surface where the brushes meet and the brushes looked fine.

It seemed to quiet it down.

I plan on getting a better one someday but figured this one is good to learn on and it was on sale for like 20 bucks.

It is good enough for us enthusiasts, that only use it a few times a year.

Before you use it on the good paint, go to a scrap yard and buy a hood or trunk to practice on. You will be glad you did.

Thanks to everyone for their feedback and for some owners to chime in.
My neighbor knows I am in the market for "something" to polish cars. He gave me the heads up on this HF unit. He told me their in store price... and I was surprised. It's WAY less than what's showing online.

Now if they would just make something like a PC.
