  • Dodo Juice Supernatural

So I can't deny that I have a problem with trying new products, especially ones that seem to get a lot of hype. Guess I'll never learn...

So anyway, I picked up some Dodo Juice Supernatural to see if it lived up to it's hype. I did a little side by side testing the other night. I was actually debating on even posting my findings until I try it on a few other paints but what the heck.

Note: I did take some pictures but felt it was pointless to post them since you can't see a difference in any of them.

    Here is what I did.

First I tried it on the deck lid of my Malano Red TSX against Meguiar's M26. I polished the deck lid with some Menzurna Nano polish as not to give either wax an edge having used a brand matching polish...even though I did get some Lime Prime pre wax cleaner. I then taped the deck lid in half and applied each wax with a separate foam applicator.

While that dried I also prepped a black hood to test them on. I like the black paint on this hood because it has some red pearl in it too. I taped off two sections of the hood about 24" x 20"

I gave both panels 45 minutes to dry and then wiped off the wax with new, separate, Supreme Shine towels. I then applied a second coat of wax and gave them about an hour to dry before wiping it off again.

    What I found...

Both waxes were very easy to apply and remove. Under closer inspection with my Dual Xenon and again the next morning in the sun, I saw some areas on the Dodo side that looked a little smeary, though it wiped right off with another clean towel.

After taking the tape off I saw no visible difference between the two. I checked the panels in the morning, noon, and again in the evening. On the red panel I really couldn't even see the tape line, though on the black hood there was a noticeable darkening of the paint, but both looked identical.

I do plan to do some more testing with the wax and at this point I can't really give a solid opinion on it. I felt it was very easy to use, produced excellent results...but it looked no better than a $11 carnauba from Meguiar's, which I personally like very much. When I can form a solid opinion of the wax I will post my findings.

Thanks for taking one for the team!

I've been having a hard time resisting ordering some. I just get so frustrated with all the hype that surrounds some products. About 90% fail to live up to it in my experience.

I really only think you can get so good from a wax. Even if you could get 1% better, would it really be worth a 500% price difference.

What a strange character! I love trying new products.

I don't deny that M26 is a good product, but if you're having difficulties with a Dodo Juice wax you're doing something very wrong ... wipe on wipe off ... how hard can it be ... no smears, no humidity problems, no day after still buffing baked on product, no "OMG! It's dull" when the sun hits it, no "it's gone after a couple of weeks" ...

Really ... if you don't like it, name a price.

I've been reading up on Dodo Juice and was curious to try it out as well. Good write up on your experience.

          Rasky,

Thanks for the test and the info! As you know, I tried to obtain some Dodo Juice SN for my wax test, but nobody was keen on letting me have at it!!! LOL

Good that you bought some (although not for your wallet). Keep us informed on what your seeing, although it looks again like it is just another case of hype (as it often is).

Nope, never said I was unhappy with it. It was simply what I noticed on my first time using it. I'm sure the smeary areas were just missed wax I was unable to see it under my shop lights. Or possibly it was applied too thick. The wax is very hard compared to most so it was hard to judge at first how much I was getting on the applicator.

Hmmm, when I saw the opening title I thought this was some kind of energy drink shootout

Will do. Though I think BlueZero hit the nail right on the head. On a perfectly polished vehicle, how much better will a wax actually make it look. I thought it was interesting that I could not see any additonal darkening on the red paint.

Fair play ... use a yellow foam applicator and just wipe it into the wax. Have faith that the wax has gone onto the pad and apply it to the paint.

I'm not one for buying the cheapest out there ... some of the replies here might suggest that price is the single factor when comparing Megs to other manufacturers. I have tried products that produced significantly glossier finishes than £10 ($20?) waxes for £1-2 ($2-4?) ... they smelled awful and were not nice products to use, but the results were fantastic!

I am all in favour of buying a quality product that is also a pleasure to use and a pleasure to own. There is a lot more than just the finish to a product IMO. I must say, I baulk at the price of Supernatural but I do own their hard and soft white waxes which I really like on my white car. I have read that Supernatural might benefit from a few hours in the sun and looks a lot better the day after.

When I first tried Pinnacle Souveran, I was not overly impressed, compared to my usual M07 M26 finish on my black car. I thought it actually flattened the finish, which was not glossy, deep or shiny. A pal recommended that I refrained from opinion until the following day and my goodness ... the following day, I changed my tune!

See how you like Supernatural tomorrow ... and pop another layer on, much thinner. TBH, the first time I used M26 I actually laughed (properly, out loud), stopped half way through application and put it away. Since then I have persevered and refined my technique and find that a spritz of QD onto the foam pad before application really helps me with that product. Refine your technique and I'm sure you'll get along with it just fine ... most of all ... have fun

I'm actually going to give my car a light polish tonight and then give the whole car a coat of SN. I'm all for giving a product a chance which was why I voiced no real opinion of it at this time. Honestly I'm hoping to be happy with the SN since I spent so much $$$ on it.

I will say that when I first wiped the foam applicator to pick up some SN wax it look as if nothing was there, then when I applied it to the paint I realized it had more than plenty on the applicator. Even thought I tried to thin it out I'm pretty sure it was too thick.

                        Thanks for the tips.

Either way, thanks for testing this! I was really tempted to get the sample, but now I don't have to waste $30 on 30ml.

My five year anniversary is coming, if I dropped 200 bucks on Supernatural, I'd bet you 500 bucks I'd get "Superkickedoutofthehouse".

                              Orca,

I think all of your tips are valid and well taken but probably stuff Rasky already knows (but is to modest to say for himself), so consider I'm the forum loud mouth, I figured I'd chirp up! LOL

Seriously though... Rasky is a real pro and does some sensational work (see some of his work in the show off your work section).... that is why I'm looking forward to his findings.

As to Pinnacle Souveran, I know many swear by it and I've only ever seen it on a car once, which I thought looked really good but not beyond anything I've ever seen.
