Anyone know of any good software?

I would like to do it online so I can input the data from work or home but I guess it's not really that big of a deal.

There are a ton of different programs out there. I downloaded this one and played with it a bit today, seems pretty good. CalorieKing I like it because it lets you create and save foods and even entire meals.

I dug the exercise bike out of storage this weekend. I think this week I'm going to be buying a treadmill too. Hopefully soon I can get the rest of the room organized and get my weight bench set up. Something needs to be done. After I get in a little better shape I can join a gym. lol

Try http://fitday.com/ . I've never used it but I've heard it's great. Just a thought about the treadmill...try checking on craigslist maybe for a good used one. It's not at all uncommon for people to get them and never use them so you probably could find a pretty nice one. Just a thought...

If there wasn't a reply from you by mid week I was going to PM you. I was hoping you would chime in. Thanks!

I'll check out the fitday for sure. Been watching craigslist for awhile so so results there. An upper end store in town that sells $1000 - $5000 models has a few trade-ins. One is a Proform 995 for $300. I'm thinking that would work for me to start on. If I wear it out I'll be happy to buy a nice one. I just have to get the motivation to wear it out. There are still two other stores in town I want to check.

Fitday is a good one. I've used it a couple times then quit tracking as it becomes very time consuming.

As for the treadmill, I might would wait on that one. Studies have been done that show walking/jogging/running outdoors increases the amount of calories you burn due to resistance as well as increases hormones in your body that affect your mood. Walking outside is free vs. not so much on the treadmill.

          Just a thought.

Very true! A little fresh air is good for you. However... the snow is coming. Not that you can't walk in snow but I'm not a fan of the freezing temps. Brrr. (We need a frozen smiley)

A few years ago when I was doing the gym/trainer thing I would keep track of my nutrition and exercise in a notebook. Like you said it really gets to be time consuming. I hope I can stick to it a little better this time with the ease of using software. When I get into the swing of things the exercise goes good it's the eating that kills me.

            Thanks for the input everyone!

              Scott,

A few years ago I did the Body for Life program, which utilized a notebook for tracking eating and exercise. They also had excel spreadsheets that you could download free off their website www.bodyforlife.com which I have used on and off for the past 6 years. When Nike came out with the IPOD+ system I started using it because I have always needed music when exercising. I automatically tracks and logs your mileage, time, caloric use and stores it in your ipod and downloads it to their website. It is easy to use and if walking/running are your primary aerobic exercise it is ideal. Nike came out with a new product this year "Sportband+ which doesn't use the IPOD, so if music isn't critical that might fit your needs better. It is like a wrist band that tracks for you and has a digital readout of your progress. The system does require that you use the NIKE + shoes, so that eliminates some people who are brand loyal to New Balance or Reebock, etc.

Stacy, thanks for the info! That's cool! I never knew something like that existed. I've been doing some research and other companies make clips that hold the sensor and attach to your shoe laces so you don't have to buy the Nike shoes. I was thinking of getting an IPOD nano anyway. I need music too. The kit is less than $30 for the IPOD. I just might give that a try. I bought the treadmill during my lunch hour today so I'm getting there (I hope).
