  • Sub Install

I had to get a new stereo because the AM/FM/Cassette just wasn't cutting it for me. I went with the Pioneer DEH-2000MP. AM/FM/CD/MP3/WMA and an AUX jack on the front.

I already had these subs. My friend let me borrow them for my other Neon, then he proceeded to break my new cellphone a little while back so I took possession of these since he didn't want to buy me a new phone. I had to photoshop what it looked like when I started as I didn't even think about taking before pictures. It gives you an idea, light gray everything except the red subs and the neon rings around the subs I had already taken off.

The box before paint (notice how dirty it is too from being light gray).

The box after paint. I also painted the ports a metallic silver, then used a clear red paint to make them metallic red to match the amp and subs.

    Reassembled.

Found some treasures underneath the rear seat when I took it out to run the sub wires. About 3 nails, a few handfuls of rocks (gravel?), $1.50 in quarters, sunflower seed shells, and just.....dirt.

Installed, and it matches the factory carpet pretty dang good.

The paint work was good but you should look into getting a better set-up. You sound like you are more into SQ (Sound Quality) then you are being loud. I think you would be much happier with a single 10" or 12" set-up in a sealed box low passed at around 60 Hz.

If you are into quality of sound IMHO get rid of the 6 x 9's and go with seperate mids and tweets. What a difference you will hear.

                      Re: Sub Install

I'm not looking to spend anymore money than I did which was buying the stereo and the adapter trim piece. I already had everything else (the subs and amp were free, see above). The reason it isn't obnoxious loud is that I have the LOUD setting on the radio turned to low. If I turn it to high, it rattles quite a bit of things... IMO, sounds pretty dang good the way it is! The Sound Quality of the set up is pretty much determinant on the LOUD setting; either quality or loudness. The subs basically are just enhancing the bass already present and not overpowering the music in any way, which IMO, is really all they need to and should be doing. They are both 8"s. I think a 10" or 12" would be a bit too much "bump" for the capability and output of the factory speakers.

I DO appreciate the input on the other options though guys. Maybe in the future when I know I will have this one for more than eight months, lol!

On the other hand, for the Mustang, I have been looking at the Infinity Basslink Powered 10" Sub for the trunk since they are a smaller, self contained unit. They also have a range from 20-120 Hz. From what I hear (no pun intended), a 10" in the Mustang with the Mach stereo system matches up perfectly. Maybe for Christmas...

EDIT: just looking back at my first post, not sure why there are 2 pictures of some. I thought I removed all of the external links when I copied and pasted, oh well.
