  • Flying to see my daughter

My daughter lives in Florida and me and my girlfriend are going to be flying to see her. I can't wait to see my daughter. I really looking forward to it and so is my girlfriend. The only thing is I'm afriad of flying. I never flew before and this will be the first time for me. My girlfriend has been on a plane before. How do people with a fear like flying do it. I hoping people on here can help me with this. Alot of people that I talked to tell me theres nothing to worry about. Well thats easy for them to say.

Last I heard, statistically flying is safer than driving a car...

That's what alot of people are telling me. We drove before and it took about 18 hrs. And to fly to Florida is 2 hrs 10 min.

True. Just don't think about to much, get on, strap in and enjoy the flight.

I plan on listening to my mp3 player on the plane.

Not to add to your concerns (I hate flying) but isn't there a hurricane heading that way now? Adult spirits helped to calm my nerves somewhat but you've got to be careful not to over imbibe at 30,000 feet....it hits pretty hard when you land

Take chewing gum to chew during take off and landing. It helps with your ears popping.

It is true and it works. Just make sure you buy it before you get to the airport. I flew out of Orlando and for some reason they didn't sell gum in the airport.

But it is a Godsend believe me. Other than that flying is OK. No big deal.

Re: Flying to see my daughter

I was afraid of flying too. I never wanted to go anywhere I couldn't drive.

Well two years ago I flew. It was a blast! I'm afraid of heights also and I was fine. I'm not crazy about snakes but there weren't any on my plane.

The first leg was on a small prop plane, next was a 727 I think, then the last leg was on a small 12 person jet. They where all great. If I could afford it I would go somewhere just so I could fly again.

Take gum, kick back and relax and feel the power. I couldn't believe how fast something that big could accelerate.

If you're that nervous and you have a laptop bring it. Rent a couple of movies and watch those. It will take your mind off of everything.

Do everything these gentlemen have recommended but most importantly, order yourself a nice Terrible Towel and keep it with you while you fly.

I hope you enjoy the flight, I know you'll enjoy the destination.
