  • College Job

I will be going back to college on Tuesday next week and am thinking about getting a part time job. Any suggestions? I can work weekends and about 20 hours during the week. I don't want a minimum pay job because I have been doing road work for the past two summers and always made scale pay which was always high. Any ideas would be great, thanks.

May be hard to find a job that pays like you were getting on a road job since its only part time. I could work in the coal mines making $16 an hour starting out but I would never be able to find a job like that in a college town with no degree.

Most students end up in a restaurant, working on campus, or working for a place like walmart or a food store.

Start out with a focus on keeping it real simple, that is aim for daily drivers and offer interior detailing with vacuuming, glass cleaning, dressing leather and vinyl.

For exteriors, offer washing, claying, waxing with a cleaner wax, don't try or offer to do show car detailing where you remove all the swirls and scratches, just focus on making the paint smooth and shiny, i.e. clay and cleaner/wax. Then dress the tires and trim.

Try to get your prices as high as you can to start with, like $150.00 for an average car, more for Vans, SUVs and Trucks.

Very true and over the long run might be a lot easier... be an employee versus a business owner...

            Re: College Job

I am not in college yet, but during school I wash cars during the week for people who want it and on the weekends I work at a company that puts on corporate picnics. Almost everybody that works there is in High School and more than half are from my school, so I get to work with people I know and people my age. I get paid $12 a hour, doing various tasks at the picnics. Good thing about it is that it's steady, unlike car washing.
