Jim, are you using a macro lens? I noticed on the bee that your shutter speed was very low and yet the wings are in focus. Were the wings not moving while it was on the flower?

    Thanks for the kind words.

I have an old Konica/Minolta Dimage Z6, a point and shoot with a 12x zoom lens; 35 - 520mm and macro to 1 cm. The camera is getting long of tooth but I love how it works so until it dies I can't bear to replace it. For me the camera has seldom been the roadblock to my photos.

The bee shot... indeed the wings were not moving. It settled in on the flower and was moving from spot to spot. This area was a lot darker than the image seems to show. The shot was 1/40 sec at ISO 125 at f8. The Z6 has image stabilization. The lens was an equivalent 60mm macro.

Great shots Jim! I especially love the detail in the Dragon fly! Well done!!!

I have not done a lot of macro work but after seeing those shots, I guess I need to go shop for a macro lens for my DSLR. I could use my wife's Canon G9 as it has a macro mode. Hmmm...I may have to just "borrow" it from her for a while.

Thanks, Tim. I love shooting Macro and find that it gives views of object that are not often seen. Challenging and yet quite a lot of fun.

BTW, I think your shots are excellent. I especially love the first and third landscapes you just posted.

Funny story... Wife's birthday was approaching so I took her to a camera store to buy her a new digital camera. Well after looking over a few compact P&S models for her I asked to see the K/M Z6 long zoom model just for kicks. Well we walked out with a new camera for me too and she was not too happy that we dumped a bundle there. LOL, It's only money, and I certainly got more than my money's worth of fun from this model.

Here's my mega post on the topic. I lack the pure talent many of you have so when I get lucky I sort of revel in it.

I watched this little hummingbird just sitting there on a branch for a looooong time, and he finally turned so the sun illuminated the colors in his head feathers - before that he just looked sort of drab brown. Now he looks a bit irritated, but I love the shot. This from a bird sanctuary in Modjeska Canyon, CA

                              Woodpecker, Modjeska Canyon, CA

                              Another hummingbird, Sedona, AZ

Pelican in flight, shot from a small boat, Paradise Cove, Malibu, CA

                              Different pelican, same place

Nesting dove in our back yard

Close up of a lily, again in our back yard

                              Another flower in the yard

This roadrunner likes to hang out in our backyard from time to time

Full moon (but, ah, you could figure that out, huh?)

And, finally, a picture that appears to be black and white but isn't. This is the result of the wild fires we had here in SoCal last October that just devastated the area. This was taken not too far, as the crow flies at least, from Mike Pennington's neighborhood just a couple weeks after the fires. The entire canyon looked like this for miles and miles. The gray covering the ground is all ash, and the white is ash from super hot areas of the fire, the tree trunks are indeed blackened from the fire.

I love the Road Runner! I did not know you had them so close to you! Too cool! Also, that Pelican is very well done!
