  • She is finally home!

So, after waiting a month for a lien sale, it was finally completed. I am now the happy owner of an e36 M3/5 coupe! So far from what I notice is that it needs a new drivers side window, driver's seat needs some TLC, head either needs to be resurfaced or replaced, needs a set of wheels and tires, new windshield, needs an intake (thinking K&N for being emissions passable unless I can get a factory box for basically free), alternator, struts for the hood, and shifter knob. The official story is that I got the car for....

    $330!

So, I was able to pull a few strings, got a set of loaner wheels and tires, and here she is coming home!!!!

And here she is, all nice and cozy in her new home!!!

Now to find a good set of wheels. I got to admit though, if I can find another set of these wheels for cheap I'd take them in a second. I really like the way they look! I see a long, but very exciting journey ahead of me

              Incredible.

Could you please write a little how-to article on how you did that and how the rest of us can copy your success?

I could sure use a good deal on a car and I'm sure many of our other forum members could too and would love to learn how you did this amazing feat.

                  Re: She is finally home!

Honestly, I was just at the right place at the right time and showed persistence towards it. A lien sale is simply this:

Basically, in this instance, the customer left the car, didn't want to pay the bill, so he left it there for over a year. The dealer takes care of the paper work and what-not. I remember seeing this M3 in the lot for some time and remember it being broken into, and it was just one of those days where the random thoughts started popping in my head about the possibilities of it if I could get it for a dirt cheap price (and I was thinking $1500+). Next day, I went and asked what they wanted for the M3, they told me $330, and I said 'yes'. I really wish there was more to it and some incredible secret, but that really is just it.

I think God wanted me to have it

Nice! Looks like you have some work ahead of you. While you have the head off might as well replace all the valve seals. Im not sure how much people charge where you are for a valve job, but its about 200 bucks for V8 heads around here. Looks like you could have a great runner for a few thousand bucks.
If its fast, loud, and runs on a flammable liquid...count me in.

                      Awesome!

That is a steal my freind! It's hard to buy a $500 beater let alone an M3!

                        Re: She is finally home!

                        Yup I am so stoked!

I was talking to one of our old techs today, who happened to be the guy who originally inspected the car, and also one of the most car crazy people I've met; actually use to even own one of these things so I got some good hook ups there! Interestingly enough, he said that he had the same problem on his M3, so he took the head to this machine shop, and $300 later there (plus gaskets), his M3 worked as good as new! So far, everything is looking up!
