  • Overspray - Tales of the inconsiderate

Last Friday, when driving the Charger around, I got stopped at a traffic light. Right next to me was a small autoshop. Out in front was a gentleman, spray painting (black) what I believed was an oil pan. As I sat there, I saw the mist of paint head right toward me and the other cars at the intersection.

Needless to say, as soon as I could, I got out and inspected. Lucky for him I didn't see anything. I'm sure that I got some overspray wrath because the mist literally went right over my hood. But, because I didn't see anything, I am sure the next time I clay it'll take care of anything that did make it.

Anyway, I debated going back and talking to the guy, but felt for the best interest of his health, I better not. I'm bothered when people have no regard for the world around them. I thought there were two rules to spraypainting. 1) Point nozzle away from your face 2) Pay attention to the wind.

Reminds me of the time I drove my motorcycle over some paint that was spilled on the street.

It took several hours to get it off the underside!

Like above, I crossed a freshly painted white line on the road and it was a real nightmare for a ful day after!

I know what you mean, I have black overspray on my WHITE van that wasn't there a month ago when it was fully corrected!

Our Super Moderator Tim Lingor recently had overspray land on his Ford Truck which he keeps in mint condition all the time...

Said it was really hard to get it all off all the different areas it landed and bonded to.

Few years back, one of the neighbours was painting their roof with some kind of coating (maroon color) so all the overspray came down to all my parents, my car and other neighbours car..blaming the workers not the neighbour. they just sprayed like theres no tomorrow.

A simialr overspray incident occured at one of our now closed mfg.plants. A company was painting the oil tanks approx. 1/8th of a mile from the south lot. Needless to say 500 cars that were parked down wind had to be completely detailed. A company was bought in and spent the entire summer cleaning cars. It was neat to see as they used #26 and than laid a razorblade flat and scaped the overspray off.
