  • At Car shows why do some people

find the need that they need to touch the vintage vehicles. I get upset when they touch mine or someone else's automobile. I once had someone scratch my 1971 Dodge Demon with original top bananna paint and it went the length of the rear quarter panel with the button on their jean jacket. I saw the event in person as it happen.

I lean in really close, but being the clean paint freak I am, I hold my breath, so I dont even breath on the car!

I was showing my Mustang someone had to touch it and left a nice hand print on the fender. They were leaning into the engine bay to get a closer look at something so they used my car to lean over it. (politly) I told him to get off my car and to not touch. When ever I go to a car show I do not wear a belt or jeans becuase of the studs on the jeans and the belt buckle.

Drives me nuts too! My father schooled me in the DO NOT TOUCH the cars when I was very young.

I usually had mine roped off, of course then you had to worry about people knocking them into the car.

Re: At Car shows why do some people

Some people are just attracted with the shiny paint job/car itself. Their natural intuition is to "touch" and feel the paint/car.

There was a car exhibition last weekend at my place and I purposely went to see them 1hr before they closed and guess what! - cars- full of handprints (not finger prints but full hand prints) all over the cars, scratches and even ice cream on the interior.

Funny part is even there some kind of barricade around the cars, people still can push it somehow to lean closer to the cars.

me - i dont touch the cars as I respect the work and passion went in to prep the cars for shows.

scratching by any means ,accidental or not, is not cool

i want to touch, talk, smell ,sit in a car

maybe car shows in the future will just be pictures of the actual cars

I hate when a person taps on the car and asks "is it real?" Some people have no clue
I've even had people crawl into the teardrop to "try it out"!!! I have a rope across the doorway with a sign that says this is my bedroom, look but don't touch and they crawl in anyway.....
too many cars, not enough time.....

I have had them bang on the fenders step onto the running boards and shake the whole vehicle on my vintage Model T and I say something and they react like that don't understand a word I just said. I put signs but I think certain individuals see what they can get away with like playing with the horn.

Re: At Car shows why do some people

At our Saturday classes, after we wipe the wax off the test spots, there's always a handful of people that instinctively walk up to the car and touch the paint.

I usually watch for this and if I can stop them so that they don't leave any fingerprints or smudges on the "after" sections so that we can pull the car outside and everyone can inspect the results and we can get pictures without any smudges or smears.

                            Happens every class....
