The only thing that would have made this story better is if you made it a surprise for both of them somehow... awesome story anyway.

I couldn't do that to my dad. He's already had 1 heart attack, can't afford to push him into another one

We have been through a similar story.

My grandfather takes my mother from her mother (in California) at age 4 and moves her to New Jersey. Tells her her mother passed away.

Fast forward 50 years and my mothers wants to know where her mother is buried so at least maybe she can visit the grave one day.

"Jeradine Massingil James."

She hires an investigating firm and they find her in Sacramento, California, alive!! She also finds out she has 5 brothers and two sisters, that we are part Cherokee and we are directly related to Jessey James -LOL!!

Well, my dad didn't make his flight. He had to drive about 1.5 hours to the airport, and hit some traffic on the way. Missed his flight
He's sticking around the airport till the next one. Should be here in just a few more hours......

Well, my dad finally made it in last night. And I must say that the first meeting went well....very well! They had a chance and sit down with each other for about 3 hours last night. I think they both walked away very happy.
They are spending this morning together, alone. So we'll know more about how their relationship will progress. I really hope they plan to keep in touch.
