According to that, the Sumitomo's on my car right now were made by PIRELLI COMPANIA PLATENSE DE NEUMATICOS in Argentina.

My tires say BFGoodrich but were made by Hankook in South Korea......

BFGoodrich tires are made by foreign countries, as far as I know. My Pro-Comp tires say Made in U.S.A. right on the side of them (just have to get the codes still.)

I remember the first day I had all my tires the same size to!!!!!

We drive 'em until a little metal starts to show up on the edges, then we make huaraches/chancletas (sandals) out of them -LOL

You are HILARIOUS! I am actually old enough (and related to Imelda Marcos) so I remember when they made sandals with Tire Re-Tread soles as a fashion statement.

This is more serious that you might think. I work at a shop (which shall remain nameless) which sells and mounts tires. These tires that are not "new" and not only older than new, they have not been treated the way they should. The company I am working for constantly puts tires outside that are on sale or even worse clearance. Those tires sit in the son all day long. Sun as you know breaks tires down. When you buy tires your best bet is to special order from the factory.

I knew about the date thing on tires. But i have only heard that old tires(more than 5 yo, is the age I have heard)) dry out and don't have the same grip as newer ones. This is especially true for winter tires. I have never heard that the tread separates other than on very low quality tires.

That tread separation I think is more of an issue with re-treads, but it couldn't hurt to give the tires a thorough inspection.

Checked mine, they were made in 06.

Checked a set of firestones that we bought last year and they were blank.

the DOT number is only complete with a date on one side of the tire. If you find it blank, it is on the other side so you can check when you rotate your tires.

My RX330 wears Bridgestone Dueler Alenza tires made in Japan the 16th week of 2007.

My garage queen, 1991 Toyota MR2 wears Yokohamas AV1-60i tires made in Japan the 6th week of 1999. Guess I need to consider new shoes for the garage queen.
