  • Help with Senior Exhibition

    Hey guys...

Next year is the big senior year and as a graduation requirement we have to do something called a Senior Exhibition. Senior Exhibitions can be anything from planning events (Soccer Tournament, Banquets) to building something that will better the world. I am doing to do my exhibition as car washing fundraiser for AmeriFace (formally AboutFace). I haven't said anything before but I was born with Cleft Palate, Lip and Nose and AmeriFace provides the public as well as people with facial deformities support and research. When I was young I was very involved in AboutFace and I would like to give back to them.

My plan is to donate 100% of the money I earn from any car washing service; basic washes as well as details. I am working on a flyer right now that I will pass around my neighborhood and post on various places in the area where people look for stuff happening here.

I had a couple questions for you guys though. I haven't committed to donating 100% of the money but I would really like to. Do you think I should only donate 100% of the money from car washes and maybe something like 50% for the full details? Money isn't a huge issue because my parents have graciously offered to pay for supplies and I have another job to help out with the cost as well.

Another question is about the donating part. I am hoping to be able to get receipts for all the money I donate and return the receipt to the person that paid for the car wash. Do you think that will get too complicated? I just want to try and avoid people saying that I didn't donate their money or all of it. Being 16 it’s really hard to get people to trust you no matter who you are, taking peoples money is even harder. The website does have a donation place that people could donate but I'm not sure if they could donate it in my name or how that works.

Any input on those topics or anything else? If you would like to donate I will provide you with details once I get everything set up.

That's a nice gesture of you, really inspiring.

What I would to is to contact AmenFace, tell them what you are going to do and see if one representative of this institution can assist to your Senior Exhibition and instead of you receiving the payment, the customers will pay directly to the institution (representative) who will be properly identified

If you want to donate 50% of the full details then you could have to keep count on how many job you do and at the end of the day you take your part.

If you need any kind of supply let me know, I'm willing on getting some in ADS and shipping it to your address directly

Good idea, and I bet it's a lot better for the community than what other kids are doing for theirs.

Nobody has any advice? I'm almost done with flyers and I plan on getting some shirts and magnets as well to promote my "business" more.

Thanks for the kind offer Francis, but a donation would be greatly appreciated for those not as fortunate as me who can't afford surgery's.

P.S. My mom informed me that this is the correct URL.

When is the date of your event and can donations be made in your name or sent directly to you ? I wouldn't worry about receipts but might drop the customers a note to say thanks and let them know how you did and where they could make a separate donation if they were so inclined. Just 16 yrs old ehhh , I bet your parents are pretty proud of you young man as they well should be. GOOD LUCK !!!

                Re: Help with Senior Exhibition

Well right now I am in a battle with my school because they are saying that the charity has to be approved, which they are saying that mine isn't. I'm sorry but I don't see how the charity being approved or not affects the fact that I'm doing it. It really doesn't make sense and I'm trying to stay calm with them but my schools administration isn't the brightest around.

But once I get them to let me do (it'll happen one way or another) the fund-raising will begin in September of this year through April of next year. I am doing the timing this way because there are certain deadlines I have to meet.

I contacted the charity and they have not gotten back to me on whether or not they can give me individual receipts. If they cannot I think what I will do is ask for checks only, that way if they would like to see that the money went to the charity they can through their bank.

Thanks Paul and I will get back to everybody with more information!
