It's pretty dangerous outside right now. We're advised to stay indoors and not go out at all. When will this end?

Stay safe! Keep the ash off your car and change your air filter when it's over.

Same thing in Northern California... news says there's over 800 fires burning....

Fire officials say there are 800 wildfires burning around California, sparked by an unprecedented lightning storm.
Flooding in the Midwest which is going to wipe out a lot of corn and wheat crops which in turn will cause the price of beef and other staples to go up...

We've got a big fire burning west of us in the Sierras, how do we keep the ash off the car? My wife has to drive to work, can't keep it in the garage forever.

This topic has come up before and there's excellent info in this thread on the hows and whys of maintaining your vehicles during ash fallout from nearby fires.

I was actually camping out on forest land this weekend when that storm hit, just off the Morman Emigrant Trail about 4 mile SW of Kyburz. It only lasted a couple hours on Saturday but the lightning was pretty abundant. Rained very little. We left camp on Sunday and saw the fires in the distance on the way home. Glad they were not too close to us. Anyhow, today is actually the frirst day since then that I've seen blue sky in the Sacramento area, rest of the days have been very hazy.

              Re: Fires...

In the past 5 years we've been evacuated twice and had fires come less than a mile within our house. The ash is no fun to clean off anything but with your car i would recommend trying to wash it as often as you can. I'm not saying twice a day or anything but maybe every couple days if you can. Remember that they need water to fight the fire too so don't go crazy but just wash and dry it off good enough to keep the ash from etching into your paint...it doesn't need to look good, just get the ash off.

              Stay safe!!
