  • Insurance - Progressive or State Farm

Is there anyone who uses Progressive?

I got a quote from Proressive and the quot was $400 better than State Farm. Anyone have any thoughts? I have not liked State Farm but I just kind of hang in there.

I don't know if this matters to you, but Progressive is a huge contributor to moveon.org. Paying premiums to them means by default, you will also be supporting moveon.org.

I like State Farm. Both times I have been hit by people with State Farm, I was allowed to chose the body shop and was amazed at how quickly they resolved my claims. If they do that for those who don't have their insurance, I imagine they are even better for their customers. When my coverage is up for renewal, I just may switch.

What about the little Gecko? (Sorry, that as closes I can get to a green gecko!)

Never had either one, so I can't comment, but just couldn't resist the gecko comment!
A great finish begins with the right start!

If the premium is that different, you might want to see why. Is the level of coverage the same? Will they pay for OEM parts on your car? Do they both assess the total value of your car at about the same amount?

Scott, interesting tip on Progressive. I wonder if the company name had anything to do with politics? I get my insurance through USAA, who I sure hope doesn't contribute to moveon.org...

Give GEICO a try also. I had them for 5 years and they have excellent customer service. I had a couple of minor claims. They were so helpful that they were annoying. They kept calling to make sure everything was resolved to my satisfaction.

I just switched to Nationwide to save over GEICO. Their rates were much lower. Progressive was slightly lower than nationwide. I went with Nationwide since I got a discount on my homeowners that came out about the same.

I ended up changing to Progressive for a savings of $400 a year! I have talked to a couple people that have progressive and have had very good luck.

I have been with State Farm for 9 years and they have been a pain a time or two or three. I had never changed I just kept hanging in there. Every time I was about to change insurance, I was told for when I turned 25 my rates would drop, they quoted me several times "...when you turn 25, the rate will drop X amount" it was a significant savings. Now I am 25 my rate dropped a big $40 a year, who cares! No tickets in 8 years, no accidents in 4 years. I asked state farm about it and they said its when you turn 30 not 25. It seems as they were dangling the carrot in front of me for a couple years.
