TransAm: Mobil 1 Synthetic. Fram filters. Always throw in a bottle of STP after each oil change. If it's good enough for Richard Petty, it's good enough for me (although I opt out when it comes to BC Headache Powder)

Volvo S70 T5: Canola, mainly from fried chicken. I like the smell it gives in rush hour traffic. I prefer Wesson light blend. Around Thanksgiving, I switch to a fried turkey oil. It is a bit thicker and has a more holiday based scent to it.

castrol syntec 0w-30. works awesome for me with extended oil changed of 8k and oil analysis states that as well. no problems with cold start ups below -20 F

Something that is almost more important than the oil is the filter. FRAM filters are the worst. I won't even put those on my 22 year old truck anymore. Anti-drainback is non-existent on those, and they are a cheap and for the most part worthless filter. Either run OEM or a good filter like WIX or Purlator. Even the SuperTech filters are pretty decent. Another thing is to never put in "additives" to oil.

I use the cheapest oil sold. Usually house brand at any given auto parts.
Always have-always will.

15 years ago I had a 78 gmc van. I would change the oil ONCE every year at about 15,000 mile intervals. Now with my 1998 gmc I change it when I remember, roughly 7000 to 10,000 miles with house brand again (currently coastal oil) I bought the van used with 45,000 miles and now have over 130,000 miles on it.

You can see I do not believe in the high priced oils.

I use the Amsoil EaO filters. The Mobil 1 filters are also excellent.

Let me tell you about additives.

I had a 72 Buick in Highschool. It had an oil leak. My father at one time had a gas station. In our garage was 5 or 6 cases of an oil additive. When the oil would get low I would add a pint of additive. After "toping off " the oil 10 time my buddy figures, "your running on pure additive now" -LOL!

I had that car running with only additive for a good 2-3 years!!

Mobil1 and ACDelco filters. I just pulled apart a motor that had 150k on it and had Mobil1 oil changes through its life every 3000 miles. There was hardly any build up on the valves! A week later we pulled apart a friends motor with 50k on it and Castrol GTX oil for its life. It was nasty, heads ended up getting hot tanked they were so bad.

Royal Purple is some great oil. I personally run BMW synthetic 5w30 in all my cars for the last 8 years. It is just Castrol of Germany in a BMW container with some special BMW additives, its a great price so I use it lol.

I run Chevron Delo 400 in my diesel. Since I keep lots of it on hand for my truck (it holds 16qts) I use it in my Toyota and the gf's Silverdo also. Delco filters on the Silverado, WIX on the Super Duty, and usually Delco on the Toyota.

How often was the oil changed and what kind of motor? Toyotas are known for sludge. I use Castrol and change every 2,000 to 2,500 miles with no sludge. I also only put on 5500 miles a year on my daily driver. My 1917 Model T I use Valvoline 100 year under the Hood works for me.

Just a question. I have a napa brand on the bird and it leaks. I was told they are wix filters but just with the Napa brand name is that true? I change the Old T birds oil every thousand miles. It may sound expensive but it has a lot of sludge from siting for 14 years. I would like to put a oil pressure gauge on it is that hard to do?

I believe that the filters are the same...

One thing I have seen around on some other forums I am on is to replace a quart of oil with a quart of ATF. The extra cleaners in the ATF will help clear out sludge. As for installing an oil pressure gauge, probably on of the easiest to do. If you want, I have an extra brand new set of Summit Racing gauges (oil pressure and water temp.)

Quite a few years ago I took a class which was put on by Napa/Wix and at that time anyway all Napa Gold filters were the WIX premium filters.

Most oil pressure gauges are fairly easy to install.
